If you have a clean install of Windows 7, Vista, or XP and haven't updated to the latest DirectX build, the game launcher will crash, possibly without displaying an error message. In the event log, you will see the following crash message:
Faulting application name: SEGA Rally Revo Launcher.exe, version: 4.0.1.1, time stamp: 0x46fb6d6d
Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 6.1.7600.16385, time stamp: 0x4a5bdbdf
Exception code: 0xe0434f4d
The problem is that there are optional DirectX components not included with most Windows distributions and in order to get them you must update to the latest version, last released Feburary 2010. You will find the updated version of DirectX here (required for all versions of Windows, even 7):
