fast weapon switch won't respond

I have fast weapon switch enabled on my game but for some reason it doesn't respond: weapon switching is done regularly by scrolling thru icons. It works just fine on Counter-Strike Source and TF2 and even Left 4 Dead, but not thru Half-Life 2 proper. Any ideas?

I'm ruining vista home premium x64.

First, welcome to the forums. Second, I feel bad for the Vista Home Premium x64 that you're ruining. Third, try hitting the Apply button. Many a time have I forgotten to do so, and been forced to laboriously hit ESC again and click my mouse. It's a common occurrence.

I do hit apply and nothing happens.

Make sure the keyboard settings for switching weapons hasn't been changed from what you're used to? (I know it's a lame suggestion, but it's the only one *I* am going to have--I don't like fast weapons switch, myself. :))

No I'm sure. I always tic the box for fast weapon switch and it won't respond. Like I said, it works in all other source games but not HL2 proper...
