We've no reason to believe anything about Episode 3 at this point, as you all well know. It's been a extremely well shaded mystery for years and the scant information we do know about it could be changed at the drop of a hat. Speculation threads abound, I am aware, but perhaps this will assist people in their theories and ultimately build unneeded hype to the game.

The majority of players, I think, have this state of mind for the beginning of Episode 3:

You're in the helicopter with a depressed Alyx headed for the Borealis. Something goes wrong with ze choppa and you crash and continue on foot.

Of course there's a whole lot of survival problems with that, especially for Alyx, but I have no reason to believe that the Borealis is our final destination in the game.

Sure, the great overwhelming power of it could knock us across the world to another rude awakening by the G-man, but that's Valve being predictable. Have they ever been predictable?

My guess is that we might actually leave the Borealis early on in the game, though I hope it will be the climatic high point of the experience, and try to return to White Forest as the main adventure. This could be either because of a malfunction, because you blow it up, or that you both really need to return to a normal life.

During that final bit, of course, will be the final Combine showdown and such. I only bring this up in the terms that I don't think that we'd make it on foot to the Borealis, which is no doubt miles to the North. It is much more likely we examine the landscape after arrival by ze choppa.

Thoughts? Questions? Flaming?

Gordon and Alyx would have to make it to this "arctic base" Mossman was at. Perhaps Alyx changes her wardrobe there. As for the "climactic" fight... We've had a strider for Episode 1, and a bunch of striders and hunters for Episode 2... I don't just want more striders and hunters, and maybe this time soldiers on foot (cut for difficulty). Gunships would be sort of new, but they've been "mini-bosses" throughout the series (Highway 17, Episode 1).

I think it would be cool to fight Advisors, but Valve would need to give us a way to... No idea if that would work out. Maybe we'll just get to see some Vortigaunts nomming away at a few up north. Catharsis for Alyx :P

Half-Life 2 had both very little and everything to do with G-Man. Episode 1 had nothing to do with him, and in Episode 2 we got the longest single "vision" we've ever had. I'm hoping Valve builds up G-Man's involvement in Episode 3 - more backstory, more information about what all is going on... And going to the arctic will probably yield very few, if any, Vortigaunts to keep G-Man away...

I just had this awesome visage of Tony Todd going, "Brrrrrr..." into a mic. XD

On G-man, however. The point of G-man is his ambiguity. I really hope we never get a "backstory" for him, but a little incite on his intentions would be nice. Hell, I don't even want to know what race or whatever he is. What I'd really like to see is the appearance in either voice or form of one of his "employers" berating G-man or pressuring you. To see G-man have someone taking dislike to his actions is great, and is probably why the opening sequence to Ep1 was the best part of the game.

I say "climatic battle against the combine" because there's so little left within the area of City 17. This is their last chance to dispose of Gordon before he probably goes on to free the rest of the Earth. Advisors I'd like to see as as sub-standard enemy, and not as a final boss. Of course there will be new enemies and such, like those bug things in the Citadel which I'd love to see.

I hope the Borealis isn't the final chapter. I want the final location to be a surprise.

$20 says we go to Xen or BlackMesa.

Deal.

BlackMesa HAS BEEN DESTROYED!!!!!

And Xen? why would he? There is nothing left to do there. If we get off-world it will be to the Combine Overworld.
