View Full Version : Sigh... COP stutter

Does anyone experience a 2-3 sec freeze whenever the game is saving, or microstuttering while in busy areas (Like the boat in the beginning)? I had the stuttering problem in SOC(Fixed it) but this is just ridiculous.I can't even go 10 secs without a stutter.

I am so sick of having to troubeshoot every GSC game that comes out. I love s.t.a.l.k.e.r. but this will be my last game from gsc.

If anyone could help me troubleshoot this stuttering problem, i would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Are you ♥♥♥♥ting me? If that's your only problem you got away easy.

1. On top of that I have multiple crashes to desktop,

2. load doesn't work for a second time (causes crash),

3. my npcs suddenly have twins,

4. the npcs in the safehoyses spawn 5 min after I arrived

Jeez, i guess i did get away easy then, eh? This game was a waste of $30. i guess you can never trust benchmarking utilities that developers put out for their game. i just ran the benchmark with 0 stutters, on extreme. fuuuuuukkkkka youuuuuu gsc!!!

Yeah... But gsc is not a big company and its games have immersion. Nevertheless I will still buy any upcoming games related to stalker cause I m a fanboi of the series. Everytime they get better.

Also I got one other super bug which was more like funny. Since npcs don't spawn right away on me, I was able to play in a cut scene and in the same time I could see my twin acting in it. Too bad he had no interactivity.

What are your specs, and what video card and driver ver do you have? it sounds like either a video card issue or a hard drive issue.

I've had similar problem that you're having, but the game i was having problems on was lord of the rings online. i did a clean uninstall of my video drivers and it got rid of the problem.

Core 2 duo e6800
Ati hd3870
4 gigs of ram
2x hard drives (one for game files - one for virtual memory)
Vista 32bit
Video drivers the last ones before current

I play with anisotropic and aa on full. Same goes for details and textures (not ultra) and gameplay is relatively ok. Worse than crysis though and without so many of trees and bushes.

Go to device manager and uninstall the video card.

Download Driver sweeper http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/
Start driver sweeper and make sure that you only check the "display" section.
Select clean.

Run Ccleaner and clean your registy http://www.ccleaner.com/

Reboot tapping f8 and choose vga mode.
When windows finishes rebooting, disable a/virus.
Re-install your drivers.
reboot the computer.

Try that and see if it works. This is what i had to do for lotro.

I hope the next game in the STALKER series gets a decent engine

Wow, lots of useless advice here. It's not a driver issue.

There's a problem with prefetching in CoP which causes the stuttering. There's a mod at http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1150835 which may solve it but it's not guaranteed.

i've posted the above issues in another thread, asking if the -noprefetch will work but noone answered. i ll give that a go too

I wasn't responding to anything but the first post. The stuttering is caused by a prefetch issue, the rest I haven't experienced.

There is no -noprefetch in CoP, you'll have to use the mod.

Here I have "No Prefetch Mod" here, along with some others you might find useful.

You're using AA with an old 3870? You say you're maxing textures yet you're using a 32-bit OS which simply cannot do it without a 'hack'. But then again your old card couldn't handle max textures anyway with it's limited amount of RAM. And you're NOT using CAT 10.2?
Are you even suprised you're having problems?

You can download Driver Cleaner 3 here (http://www.mediafire.com/?yvizdzy2gkh).

First of all you can't max textures in COP with a 32-bit OS. And with that video card, you wouldn't want to, it's just going to slow things down even more.

Uninstall your video card via Add/Remove Programs > ATI Software Uninstaller.

Reboot.
Run Driver Cleaner.
Go through each of the ATI things via the drop-down menu and clean out each one. Then run CCleaner and do a file sweep and clean out registry. Run each more then once to ensure junk files/registry have been cleaned out.

Reboot and then install Catalyst 10.2
You shouldn't really need 10.3 unless you have a 4000 or 5000 series card.
After installing Catalyst drivers/software. Update your DirectX via this web-updater (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en). If it has completed right away without downloading anything, use this DX Redist version (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=0cef8180-e94a-4f56-b157-5ab8109cb4f5) to ensure you have all DX files and that they installed properly.

The Intel Chipset drivers for your P45 chipset were also updated in Dec 2009. Get the Intel P45 updated XP drivers here (http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18494&ProdId=2115&lang=eng).

I have maximum textures to the point the engine allows me, meaning one click lower than max. Not using any hacks or any cats and dogs.

Really that old hd3870 works wonders, i have relatively good FPS throughout the whole game enough for a good gameplay. Either way that "old" 3870 can handle most of the new games and i always set the effects on high.

Sorry i assumed you meant maxed as in maxed. And don't fret, i too have a 3870....

I totally agree the card is fine for 75% textures with CoP and plays most games out there very well indeed, still. But there's one thing the card is and always has been bad at - AA. Always a big performance hit with it enabled in any game. The newer 4 and 5 series cards handle it much better.
