every time i try to enter in my name it keeps saying its weird

It's to make it so people who don't own Gmod or who pirated it can't download and use up bandwidth.

You can't have numbers in your name. I know, it's annoying. However, definitely worth it to get rid of these lousy pirates.

Also it's probably going to make the downloads faster, without the pirates lagging up the servers.

I don't care for it either. But seeing the responses of pirates in the facepunch forums is definately worth it.

To verify you need to change your account url to something other then random numbers in your account settings

IF someone'd ask me to put a long piece of code onto my steam account, I would like to know why, I doubt anyone would just go like 'yea sure'.

So I dropped $10 on a game I can't download content for because I dared use numbers in my steam name?

Is there a solution?

To do that would require that their "friend" owns the game, and their "friends" allow them to use their account(which is against the eula). And if they already had a "friends" account which already owns gmod they would probably use that.
