Hi everyone , first post. I have bought the Railworks bundle recently and being very impressed with this sim, have bought the Challenger and the three Allaboard Routes. However, in the Colton And Northern route, when in the Free roam scenario right at the beginning when trying to hook up to any of the groups of cars in the yard just ahead, the game ends due to AI collision. I have successfully hooked up to other cars in that scenario but that particular yard just ahead to the right is all AI collisions. Is this a known bug or is it maybe something that can be worked around somehow? Ive uninstalled the entire railworks group in Steam and even deleted the Railworks folder in Steamapps and then reinstalled it but it still is happening. Thanks in advance for any help. Im a newbie to Train Sims BTw but have enjoyed the Microsoft flight sims for many years.

Did you try the Clear Cache option yet?
When you first launch Railworks, click on the Tool & Docs tab, then use the Clear Cache button, then Start Railworks.
If that doesn't seem to fix it, it could just be a bug with that particular scenario(s).
Does the other various Routes and Scenarios installed with Railworks you try seem to work okay?

Yes, ive tried clear cache several times no luck. Ive tried at least one regular (non free-roam) scenario in Colton and Northern and that section of the yard still causes AI crashes. Without having tried to access that section of the yard in all scenarios, Im assuming the problem is consistent to that section of the yard in all scenarios.I hope im wrong. I guess Ill have to try some more scenarios to check if all crash.
CALL FOR HELP....If someone here has a chance, please can you check in the Free Roam scenario in Colton and Northern (providing you have this addon) if the yard just in front and to the right as you begin causes AI collision Crashes? Maybe its a universal bug that needs to be fixed?
Oh , yes Other than this problem Railworks so seems to work properly.
BTW I have an Ageia PhysX card installed and when I try to hook up to cars in that section of the yard, the cars seem to be in an explosion an kinda go flying around. And this happens as I get within about 30 feet or so of the hookup. then the game ends and I get a "AI caused collision" message.

Hi again. I have that route, but whenever I ran it before, usually I would run one of the other scenarios, or before in FreeRoam when I tried it, I never bothered trying to grab those consists in the yards starting off to the right-side you mention (I just explored things driving just the Locomotive engine by itself).
Anyways, I just ran a test of things on my end. Indeed, it looks like it may be a universal-bug with this particular free-roam scenario. When connecting a locomotive to the first consist (the one with the double blue/red box cars), I can connect without problems. But if I try to connect to any of the other two consists (the Silver colored consist and Red colored box cars consist), I do get the AI Collision type error same as you.
Chances are this is just a bug with this one particular scenario, and should not affect the other scenarios (unless there were bugs in those too). So, if running the free-roam one, for now I suggest that if you want to explore it, to either do so with just the Locomotive Engine by itself, or you could probably connect to the first double-box-car consist (the blue/red one) without problems as well. Or there may also be some other consists somewhere along the route you may be able to grab as well.
I may be able to make a "duplicate" of this free-roam scenario and see if I can then go in with the editor and find a way to fix it. If so, I'll let you know and see about getting you a "fixed version".

THANKS, I appreciate your interest in helping. If you see any way to get around the bug, ill try it. I tried also a regular scenario and that area caused the AI collision also. BTW now that you mention it, I never tried to hook up to the first group as you successfully did...I only tried the red and light colored group. BTW I also backed a group of other cars onto the farthest right track in there and tried to hook up to them once they were in that area with another locomotive, and that resulted in an AI collision as well. T I A for any help.

Might not be a bug, some rolling stock are for show only and are fixed, just as some of the units are fixed, the F7 key should show all the units and rolling stock in the scenario that are abled. What you could do is edit the scenario and add your own rolling stock. I don't have the Colton and Northern so can't tell you for sure but it might be worth you checking.

Hi Guys, the same problem happen to me. I can't hook cars on "Colton RR Yd 2 and 3.
The F7 key shows that all cars in this area are able.
I have also problems with the scenario "12-Tucker Auto Fab-Drop-off".
I tried the same thing you didn't work.

Hi again. I did a quick-fix of the Free Roam scenario for the Colton & Northern route.
This will not "replace" the default Free Roam scenario, but rather I made a duplicate of it and renamed it, then I deleted the two problematic consists in the yard and replaced them with some new ones.
I ran a quick test of things, and am now able to connect to all three consists in the starting yard area to the right. Though there may be other bugs with trying to connect to other consists or box-cars you may see along the route, I don't know, but at least I think I have fixed the immediate problems in this scenario as mentioned above.
You can download the duplicate "fixed" scenario and should be able to install it without problems.
For now, you can download it from the following link:
http://www.rryard.com/files/ColtNorth_FreeRoam_Fixed.zip
Download, un-zip the file, launch RailWorks, click on the Package Manager tab, click on the "Install" button, navigate to the un-zipped "rwp" file.
You may also want to go to the "Tools & Docs" tab after installing and use the "Clear Cache" button.
Now start RailWorks. Go to the Colton & Northern route. You should now see a new additional scenario, which I name "Free Roam (Fixed Consists)". Hopefully it should now load in and work without the problems of the default free-roam scenario.
Building a route and programming scenarios, it's a lot of work and time involved. It can be hard to catch everything (especially if it wasn't thoroughly beta-tested), or what might work fine on the developers computer with his installation, it may have errors on other people computers.
Rich does great work on his routes, but I did sometimes find trying to do some of the scenarios that came with this particular route a bit difficult and confusing. Though that could be due in part to my feeble shunting-skillz' ;)

No problem. Glad to help. Anyways, it fixes things for myself as well.
The reason I didn't "replace" or make the edits in the default Free Roam scenario that comes with that route, is because if RailWorks updates itself, then it might just end up un-doing any changes that would have been made. But hopefully in making a duplicate scenario with the fixes, that any updates shouldn't affect that.
Let me know if this "fixed" scenario installs and works for you.
Though it seems to works fine on my end, I'm not yet sure if works okay with other peoples RailWorks.

Ok, great! That's good to know that my "fix" for the Free Roam scenario seems to be working for other people that try it.
When I checked this scenario with the RW_Tools utility, it did report a bunch of "error" messages.
And, you're welcome. :)
