View Full Version : How many buy then don't play?

I just took a look at the global achievements for this game. Only 43.7% of players have killed more than 100 specimens? What gives? Are people being gifted the game and then just not playing? I'm just curious if there's a reason that I haven't thought of in the 30 seconds since checking the global records.

I believe private accounts don't add to the completed percentage. Not sure about accounts that have not set up their community profile. That would probable be a fairly large part of it though.

There is also some question as to their accuracy. Can we get a link for comparison purposes?

Excellent question, I bought the game and played it for around 45mins and had to put it aside.. forever!

The game is very monotonous so you become uninterested and lazy, but you don't get enough bullets to get lazy.. so I remember running out of bullets easily.. boring.

Definitely not the type of game for you then. Last I checked I logged about 399 hours on this game, and not even one hour months since I bought Team Fortress 2. The gameplay style just never appealed to me.

It's possible that a friend gifts the game to another friend, who just doesn't enjoy it as much or is mainly a console gamer.

Also, I do believe all the Valve employees get every game for free, and there are about 100 I think. That can make a difference for achievement stats for unpopular games (which isn't KF, btw :D)

I'd like to play online - but my connection sucks. Massively huge ping of around 200-300. I've given up on Left 4 Dead until I can get a better connection or a fixed line connection. Solo play isn't as fun as playing with real people

it's the limited ui and rough learning curve that makes this game hard to pick up for noobs. valve games like tf2 and l4d are all up in your face every 5 seconds about what to do, and when to do it, so people are less easily confused with the basics at least. tf2 has all kinds of annoying objective tips covering your screen for the first 50 (FIFTY) times you play any map ffs, you would have to manually edit some files just to get rid of them.

here on kf, tripwire just chucks you into a server community of total anarchy, with default filters set to pwn players on the first server they see with the most players. this kind of freedom has its drawbacks, but if half the newcomers knew what they were doing I think we would see a lot more popularity, even with this old school engine.

then again we see crazy stats like this on valve's own games, so they really shouldn't be taken so seriously. anything near 50% is actually a pretty good number, you'd be surprised at how many players really stick with any game past the first few times they try it out.

I would not link to my profile, because my accountname would show and it is not the same as my forumname.

Therefore i can only take a snapshot of my actual KF-playhours.

I checked and the hours are almost 1300 h.

I took a snapshot of the hours, but is there any point of uploading the small image somewhere onto internet?

OK, here: http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/4151/kfplayhours.jpg

lol, I agree. Apparently bullets are wasted too fast probably because he's used to the unlimited ammo on L4D instead of aiming. D:

last time i checked there is no unlimited ammo in L4D. Pistols?

I think most people just get frustrated when they go, "oh, I'm good at games, I'll play on hard" and then they get taken down in 2 hits from a clot. Then they obviously stop playing.

I love this game so much that I felt only paying £11 on release I was ripping them off. So I actually own 3 copies of KF.

What was that? are you mad?

Quite simply NO. I myself have had an insane amount of gameplay out of KF and it's saved me a fortune from buying tons of other crap games.

Not only that but I want to make sure that TW will make a sequel to this awesome game aswell as continue supporting it.

I'm all lvl6 on my main KF. I have a few lvl 2's on my 2nd account and the 3rd account hasn't been used and I might just end up using it as an easy way to set up a dedicated server.

You should go check again then and be quiet until you know what you're talking about.

are you talking about some ammo piles scattered through maps on easy?

i don't count pistols because they are useless against hordes.

On topic, a lot of people played during the free weekend getting achivements, but not everyone bought the game after. That's why I think the %s are so low.

KF is from tripwire, not from valve.

Not every single damn game on steam is made by valve.

That aside, I guess TWI went all valve on the achievements and included the free weekend players. Check the team fortress 2 achievements, the most achieved is "hardcore: kill 5 enemy players in one life", which only about 40% of all players has. In that one, valve included everyone who has TF2, and not all the active players. I can safely make a guess that TWI did the same, and included free weekend players.

lots of people bought the game, played it a couple times and never touched it again. I know because a couple of my friends dont play this game anymore, which is a shame because this game can be amazing sometimes. I rarely play kf anymore, but I already played 300+ hours on it and have done everything possible. I really wish a new content update would come out.

I would've played it more but these ♥♥♥♥ing connection issues wont let me play

( 15 sec and everything walks into walls , no servers online ( fixed by master server file update ( why didnt they update it themselves ???)) , endless loading map screen etc. )

And dont ♥♥♥♥ing tell me its my connection cuz 60 % of the players have this issue and every other game works just fine

More than once i have read in different posts that connectionissues can be Steamrelated?
