What's with these stupid guards?!

Every now and then, a guard will inform me that I have his ear.

WHAT THE CRAP?!!!

I checked in my inventory and there IS NO STUPID EAR!!!!!

Then to defend my honor, I kill the guard and then all his stupid guard friends get upset and take me to jail! How am I supposed to do anything in this game when all the guards accuse me of things I did not do, and then take me to jail when I defend my honor.

I give up.

Funny how you can have the ear of a town guard with no penalty, yet you can't steal a pewter spoon without being threatened with jail time. I guess the economy was different back then in the olden made-up days.
