mass effect/steam issue

i just downloaded mass effect. everything went smoothly and when i went to go launch the game i immediately get the "mass effect has stopped working" windows message. Any help would be appreciated.

Usual approaches done? Verify game cache files, restart pc and steam, drivers up to date,... ?

Yea i tried all that and nothing worked.

I've just got this problem too, but I've had ME2 for ages. I've been using the beta UI (which just failed) but when I reverted to the "old" UI, ME2 won't launch :(

hey Dakoman try disabling your User Account Control. I did and mine worked.

I made a female character in Mass Effect 1 on my Windows XP box. Chose Spacer, War Hero, Infiltrator. I was given a "bonus skill" of Assault Rifle combat.

I did basically the same thing on my Windows 7 laptop, making the same choices, but didn't get the bonus skill. What gives? Is it totally random? Is there something I'm supposed to do to get it?
