Torchlight installs directx on every startup...

you can try deleting or renaming the DirectX folder in steam\steamapps\common\torchlight\ so that even if it attempts to install DX again, it won't find the files.

Have you tried installing the latest DirectX? I had similar problem with Dawn of War 2 which installed GFWL every time I launched the game, which installing latest version of GFWL manually fixed.

I think this works.

Load the game, start profiles with each of the three characters.

Exit game, restart. Load steam, vertify the game cache/files by right clicking on Torchlight in your games list; properties, local files.

Either that or it goes away after a few reloads.

i have that with all steam games, just cancel it right away and it should stop showing up.. at least it worked for me every time
