View Full Version : I can't connect to servers at times

When I click on refresh all and click on a server that shows up, a lot of times the "information on server" window pops up and the latency jumps up in the thousands. It doesn't show any players in the server or anything like that. Also if I try to connect console it just goes "Attempting to connect.." and then failed to connect after 4 times. It would be like this if I connect to any other server. At times though it does work and I get to enjoy CS:S. I don't think it's my router, but I'm not sure.

Is your firewall blocking hl2.exe? I was getting problems like that until i realized the game exe was getting firewalled. Also make sure your router or DSL modem got CSS ports forwarded (UDP 27015 for most servers)

Oh so bump. That's a really strange problem. There is the way to connect, though - you need to quickly join some game as the CSS loads up. If you wait for about a minute, it goes as the binkow had stated it: the "information on server" window pops up and the latency jumps up in the thousands. It doesn't show any players in the server or anything like that.
I've tried disabling firewall and turning anti-virus program off, yet there wasn't any good result of this. And since I don't have a modem or a router (the cable goes directly into ethernet port), I'm not sure if I can portforward anything.
Any info or help would be gladly appreciated.

Same problem. Bumping
EDIT: I checked the FAQ page on Steam, and found a way that fixed it:

Look for the part about adding -tcp to the target line. That's what worked for me
