When he speaks I cannot hear him I just see his mouth move.

NPCs talk fine but poor old Batman is not making any noise.

Any ideas?

Verified files and it told me they are all fine.

Batman does not have a preset voice in the game instead it's time for the player to say what he or she thinks and respond to the characters in his or her way when Batman opens his mouth and lip syncs what you are saying.

Have you tried plugging in headphones and listening? Or opening your soundcards software and testing your system?

I had a sound configuration problem too. When I started the game, most dialog could be heard except for Batman's. I thought that it was a problem with my sound card, but looking around I found that my PC was configured to work with four speakers and I only have two, I changed that and everything was fine. The configuration changed itself for some reason without me doing anything, so maybe the same happened to you. You should check that out, I don't know how's the case with your PC, but in mine, I access the sound configuration through an icon in the Taskbar near the clock.

I remember i had a problem like this a long time ago with the game Mafia.

I just went into DxDiag and disabled Hardware Sound Acceleration, and it solved it for me.

Give that a try.

I had a problem like this today:
Opening the Speakers menu on the software the Drivers installed I noticed that the Front Center Speaker and the Subwoofer were "OFF" (that is to say, the volume was all the way to 0). I raised the volume bar again to the top and VOILA, it worked.
I honestly do not know how that happened since NO ONE touches my computer, so I'd recommend checking out your settings once again.

Similar problem.

I have a 2.1 setup but my sound card doesn't have an option for that. I have it set up as a 5.1, then configured my speakers under Windows and unchecked all optional speakers except for the subwoofer. Testing left, right and subwoofer is fine. Sound in all other games is fine. I can hear Batman through my subwoofer. I'm guessing the higher ranges are being filtered to a non-existent center speaker.

I can get Batman to speak if I configure my soundcard for stereo, but then I can't get anything through the subwoofer. Quite annoying. Eventually I'll replace my amp so I can have stereo output from the soundcard and have the amp filter to my subwoofer and forget this trouble.
