View Full Version : Steam Overlay

Hello, so I bought the game through steam yesterday or the day before, and I hadn't tried untill just now. It seems the steam overlay isn't working for me. I was just curious as to if anyone else was having this issue or if it was just myself. It's not a huge deal or anything.. just annoying to have to alt+tab out of a game to answer a steam message, only to tab back in to hear 3 more messages 2 seconds later.
Any word on this from anyone else would be great, thanks in advance guys.
EDIT** I should probably make note that I am refering to GTA 4

xD, lol. I'm sorry Mario lmao. Come on bud, you know you and I were having a conversation xD. Have you tried binding the overlay to another key? (can't believe I didn't mention this until now -_-)Doing some research on your problem, someone mentioned binding a different key >_<.

Overlay no longer works with my steam bought gta4, either. Also, if I minimize the game and check my steam profile it appears that I'm not even playing it, so steam isn't recording the time played on my community profile. Overlay works as normal with my other steam games and I always launch gta4 via steam, not social club. I guess it's not a huge problem although it's a tad annoying when it's always worked fine before now.
Edit: forgot to say that the prob still exists with steam beta.

I had this too for a while. Now, I didn't go through a lengthy process to find the specific problem, but I did one thing and it seemed to stop, I hope it works for you too.
From what I can tell, GTA IV's Steam 'status' (In-game, Online etc) is tied to Rockstar Social Club, not the game itself. For whatever reason, I right-clicked the icon for Rockstar Social Club (or R*SC) in the Windows taskbar and unchecked "Run when Windows starts". Seems to work fine for me now, maybe it will for you too.

right click on steam icon in taskbar, settings, in-game, and set your key to the num Lock key and enjoy :D
