So I just bought Bad Company 2 over steam, and I get really really slow speeds for steam games, due to wierd ISP throttling, so I was wondering if its possible to transfer my brothers game files from his non steam version in to my \steamapps\common\battlefield bad company 2\ folder and have steam recognise them.

I realise its a long shot, but its going to take at least a week to finish downloading.

Hey,

I don't think that is possible. Steam and EA versions of the game are different. So I think you're stuck downloading.

If you have a friend with a good internet connection, then go to his house, download it using your steam account and then back it up and install on your computer at home. I've done that a few times with Steam games.

Well I tried it for sciences sake.
It didn't work at first, but then I used the option verify local game cache, and it replaced the bad files, resulting in a much much smaller download.

Steam shouldn't be throttled, you should seriously sue your ISP. It's not P2P, but a simple file grab from a server. Did you try picking different download location servers & set your speed to >10M T1?

Sue his ISP for what exactly ?

Are you just another one of these yanks who creams "law suit" when someone accidentally bumps into you in the street ?

It works with Company of Heroes and all its expansions, so i wouldn't be surprised if it worked with Bc2 as well.

I don't know how it is in the UK or wherever you're from, but here in the US, your ISP cannot and should not throttle your connection for a simple file grab.

Are you just one of those pikey hooligans with bad teeth? :) Nah, all joking side, I've been to the UK and it's great. Nobody should mess with your internet, it should be a right.
