OK, noob question. How do I locate a quest NPC so I can return to him for my reward?

When I look him up in the notes, I have a 3 day old report that he is in a certain town, but he isn't there anymore apparently. How do I figure out where he is now?

You can go to different castles, or find an NPC and ask about "Finding the location of a person" (something to that effect, I think you can ask lords and stuff)
You should also be able to pull up your information stuff, and find out where the person resides, or where they hold lands, although they may not be there currently.

Your best bet is finding the NPC's that let you ask about people's locations
(and off the top of my head, Lords let you do this)

Yep, you can ask a Lord or a Lady for his/her location as long as the person you ask to belongs to the same faction the person you're looking for. Just visit castles or ask any lord you find wandering around.

OK, thanks for the tip. I think I know what my real problem is now.

I think the faction is at war (where can I find this information definitively?).

All of the castles seem to be empty, and all of my current reports on these lords shows them being up in a neighboring territory, where it appears they have taken over several foreign towns.

Makes it hard to run into this guy if he's rampaging about the countryside all the time. Is he going to get really mad at me if I don't get his money to him soon? It's a collection quest and I've got his money, I just have to deliver it to him. I'm losing way too much money paying my band of guys to just run around chasing leads on this guy.

Another thing about trying to track down a mobile target...I'm REALLY slow. How do I fix that? I have horses equipped on myself and my two heros and I have three other cheap horses in my inventory. I still seem to be one of the slowest parties on the map.

Thanks for the tips.

This is the original M&B by the way. I bought it a while ago but am just getting around to playing it. I don't really have any interest in multiplayer, so it seems like Warband probably isn't worth it for me.

- You can find information about the factions in the Faction panel. It's one of those buttons in the lower part of the screen when you access the Quest panel, for instance. Or just press L. Or whatever. There's no direct access to that section, so you must use this workaround.

- The loan quests are extremely flexible. So much that as long as you talk to the Lord in question and manage to take the money back it's yours to do as you please. You'll see that at that point the quest timer is deactivated, so you can bring the money back whenever you want... if you want. This particular quest is extremely useful when you're low on cash, as you can see. Free cash.

- Map speed is affected by: party size (bigger is worse), morale (more is better), inventory (more weight is worse, having some horses in there to carry the load help to alleviate this), the pathfinding level of your party (more is better), and the amount of troops without horse you carry around (more is worse). If you own a castle or city garrison all your troops but the mounted ones when you're in this kind of errand. Also, make sure all your heroes are mounted to help with speed. If you do so you can get between 6 and 8 speed depending on the pathfinding level.

As a general tip, if you are tired of looking for a lord then get lots of food, make sure you have money enough and wait in his castle until he appears. They always come back eventually.
