borderlands GPF error

so i just got borderlands and i got what appears to be a somewhat common general protection fault. from what ive read some of these seem unfixable others are, thought id try and find out if mine can be fixed. here is a pic of the exact error it gives me whenever i try to start borderlands

Do you have an Athlon XP CPU? Gearbox screwed it up and some fan had to fix it. They even refuse to patch this simple issue.

Works like a charm on my Athlon XP 3200+
