I'm interested in learning more about the Elder Scrolls story - we need updated versions of Arena and Daggerfall :p - and having only played Oblivion, I was wondering whether or not it would be worth it to buy this game. Would it be fun? Or would I simply be frustrated by the RPG fighting and the less streamlined game mechanics?

It has more reading than Oblivion did. Everything is read from text boxes, so no fully voiced dialog. That being said, the world is MUCH less bland. Every location is interesting. The atmosphere is excellent. Not to mention the numerous mods available to enhance the many bugs, and unbalanced game play mechanics, as well as the graphics.

I actually nabbed my copy during a sale for $5. But the $20 they are asking now is fine. It gives you a huge game, with endless amounts of quests to do.

In short, get the game. You will surly have fun. Some of the events of Morrowind are even referenced in Oblivion as well. So this can help fill in the gaps in the story.

To be completely honest, I used to play the game all the time, but ever since I got the THQ pack, it has been collecting virtual dust on my hard drive. So having writen this post, I might go back and fire up my old Character and play a bit:cool:

Some useful mods:

BetterBodies
Better Heads (any of them)
Texture packs (which ever works for you)
Any balancing mods you like.

PS: to get mods working correctly, you need to rename the dates of the morrowind data files. Just google "morrowind steam mods date" and you should be led to a tutorial.

To be honest, I don't think I'd mind that. Bethesda REALLY needs to hire some more voice actors. And better ones, to boot. ;)

Lol. Yeah. Now that you mention it. Although they are getting better. Fallout 3 had some decent voice acting. They even got Liam Neeson to play a lead role. Although Patrick Stuart Was in Oblivion...

lol... Yeah...I think Bethesda is going to make it a theme to kill off the one good voice actor early in the story... they did the same thing to Liam Neeson

Well, I bought it, but I haven't really gotten into it yet. The first thing I'm going to need, however, is the ability to run it at widescreen resolutions so that I can play it in fullscreen without stretching.

You CAN use Morrowind Graphics Extender and all of its functions fine with the steam version. You just have to disable the steam overlay in-game when you play.

If you haven't heard MGE lets you change the native res to anything and lets you create distant land views and comes with MWSE(morrowind script extender) built in

I also recommend MCP(Morrowind Code Patch) and the tamriel rebuilt mods

btw this is my all time favorite game. You won't be displeased as long as you stick to the game long enough and don't be like my friends who stopped playing because they couldn't kill rats
