Look at this video,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9Ca-dEk8Fc

Notice when I derail, a box comes up in the top right corner.

Now when I do the exact same thing, I get the big box that comes up with 'Game Over Error'.

What did I do that made it come up as a little box, and I can still control the camera?

Almost every time you derail (probably 98% of the time), you'll get the big gray "Game Over" box in the middle of the screen a few seconds later.

However, there has been a couple of times I've derailed or crashed, that I don't get the "Game Over" box, and I'm still able to control the camera and look around. This seems to be a rare occurrence though and I'm not sure how to duplicate it to happen again.

Something within the RailWorks program itself I'd say that may cause this "glitch" to happen rarely where it doesn't 100% of the time give the big "Game Over" message box.

Myself, I'd prefer an option to be able to look at the carnage after a train-crash or derailment rather than the big "Game Over" box that appears in the middle of the screen, then I can quit the scenario myself when I want.

I am the same. I want to be able to look around after...

It was applied in the previous update, it seems to not have been put into full effect yet.

As far as I can tell, you get the big game over if you are in a scenario normally, and the little corner one if you were editing and clicked the play button. Not sure which way the free roam scenarios go because it's been ages since I derailed in one.

Personally, I would prefer if they let you look around too.

I'll still get the big "Game Over" box in the middle regardless if starting to play a scenario I was editing, free-roam, or otherwise.

It only seems to rarely happens (for me anyways) that I don't get the Game Over box and I'm still able to look around.

I have only had the big "game over" box in the middle of the screen when I got a derailment. Not sure about that little box.

And when I do get a derailment, the camera seems to "fly" around the train until I click "OK" and close that scenario. Could that be because I normally use the "2" key with the fly around camera when I'm driving the train?

Usually the little box appears, after my train hits a buffer and derails.

The last time I had this happen, I was running a High Speed Train on the Oxford to Paddington route. I was just having some fun, seeing how high a speed I could get up to and how well the train could manage to stay on the tracks on some of the curves.

It did quite well for about 15 minutes I guess, until I quickly approached a tight curve in a 20 MPH speed-zone with my HST going at around 120 MPH. Well, you can guess the disastrous result!

I had an inside-cab view for that, and I must have rolled the train a good half-a-dozen times or so. What a wild ride! Afterward, I never got the usual "Game Over" message, but was able to change camera views and look around at the carnage, and I was even still able to blow the horn. What a pile-up it was, and the wheels on some of the cars were still spinning around like mad.

Wish I had a video capture of it. :)
But yeah, most every other time I've ever derailed or crashed, a few seconds later I get the big gray "Game Over" message box in the middle of the screen with the camera view panning around in an overhead view with a circular spinning around motion.
