View Full Version : Why did I lose my extra copy of CoH classic?

I bought the complete CoH pack a while back, when it was on sale... I was expecting to have a gift copy of CoH classic still in Steam, but instead I didn't get one. It said something about that I couldn't have it. I didn't say anything about it for a long time, because when I registered on these forums to mention it, I had to wait for someone to activate my username. So I forgot about posting something, until now.
I bought classic CoH a long time ago on Steam, and I feel like I was pretty much ripped off. CoH pack INCLUDED classic CoH, but it just acted like since I already owned it, that it would just replace it, and that money I shelled out for classic CoH some years ago was rendered pointless.
I was gonna give the gift copy of CoH classic (that I was expecting) to my nephew, so we could play 1 vs 1 (him on my secondary PC) on it when he comes over. :( He has his own Steam account.
Steam doesn't appear to have a customer support line of any kind to call.
If I'm not seeing some detail that made this completely acceptable, someone please correct me...
Otherwise, where would I go to talk to the good people at Steam about this?

Read and understand before you purchase anything on Steam. It specifically says at the checkout page that you won't get an extra copy by doing this.

Exploder don't be a high handed holier then thou jerk, he/she is just asking for help as he/she doesn't know what to do.
Mole3 try going to the "Support" button at the top, then try contacting "Contacting Steam Billing and Support" you should be able to talk to them and work something out, as its not really fair that you get shorted the game.
This is part of the reason why I never really trusted Steam games in the first place, as if there is something wrong, it seems like in the forums that they could care less, and because it is downloaded content that there might not be any laws protecting the consumer as there are if you walk into a store and buy the product from a physical store.
A friend of mine had tried to "gift" something to me, but I already had the game, just not from steam, yet I am still not sure if he got his game back, as I told him to gift it to another friend of ours, and support just told me that as long as I didn't accept the gift that he should be able to take the gift back, then be able to gift it to another person.
Edit:
AHH sorry I just checked it out... you should be able to get your extra copy back by going to the same page "Support" at the top of the page, then by scrolling down to "Featured Articles" and there should be a link that says "Extra Copies".
Once you contact them, then it seems like you should be able to get that gifted. Not sure though, as company of heroes is not listed as one of the titles, but you should be able to get that extra copy, as its not really fair that you get ripped off like that.

I know it may be a bit harsh, but I agree with this.

There would have been a problem if Steam said nothing about the extra copy replacing old one. But as Exploder said, Steam gave a warning right before OP checked out the pack, and also COH is not listed under the extra copy section of the support. It just proves that it is very important to read everything before buying something. It's just like signing a contract. You have to read every single bit carefully.
Anyways, I'd still go ahead and contact support and see what they say.

Yes it says that, but is it fair? I don't believe that it is, as you are paying for a full version of the game. If it was a physical disc, then you could just give the disc away, or give the previous account to someone, then make another account.
Why is it that if you are buying the package, that you do not get what that package includes?
Would it be better to create a new account if you wish to buy a game that includes a game that you already have? Just so that you can "gift" an extra copy to someone?
It seems to me that they don't really care about loyal customers, even though it costs 4 times as much to get new customers then to just keep the old ones, and have the old customers be loyal to them.
It would seem to me that it would be in steams interest to show its customers that they actually care about them, and treat them as a person and not a number or dollar sign to exploit.
When it was physical discs, then you could always just give the disc to another friend if you had gotten the "gold" edition or something, but I find it unfair to the loyal customer that they have to pay for something that they already have, or in part had paid for before.
In this case I think that it would be better if they "gave" him/her the extra copy as if they don't, then they just look greedy and in the end don't care about their clients or customers.
With the other experiences that I have recently received, it is making me rethink using steam, as before I did not want to use steam just because I didn't really feel that I could trust them, as things like this happen alot, as it is not a physical store, and it is virtually impossible for you to get a refund for anything.
