Planet scanning question.

When planet scanning most of the time is it just for resources or we also be able to pick up some side quests by scanning the planet for signals etc? i noticed only signals only appearing if you have accepted a quest from someone.

Resources mostly, you will need these for your upgrades. Every once in a while you'll get an anomolous signal, which will signify a mission.

There are some random missions but not many. As soon as you enter orbit you will hear EDI say "Anomoly Detected" if there is a mission there then you just use a probe to find it.

The good thing, as Neuromancer points out, is that you immediately know if there's an anomaly. There's no need to scan for one if there isn't. Also, since there's only one mission per system, and gas giants don't have missions, you can search an entire cluster in just a few minutes.
