half life one source freezes?

So i recently purchased half life 1 source and i cant seem to play it. It starts to load goes through a few different pictures in the loading screen then freezes on one picture in particular each time. so i tried re installing it 3 times and i still cant get it to work.

my mouse can still move on the screen but i can not get back to my desktop or exit the game!

You may need to add a DEP exception (https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7169-TIAV-5361#dep) for the game.
