Can someone give me a brief history of this game?

So I'm hearing a lot of words thrown around saying that this game (AVP2000, not the newer, modern one) has just gotten out of multiplayer beta. Wasn't this game out like a decade ago? So you're telling me they didn't add multiplayer until just recently?

No.

They pulled the multiplayer a couple of years after it was released(Which happens when old games are replaced in the franchise). They only now, for the STEAM launch(Also to add hype to the newer game), added a bare bones server list of local hosts(Don't expect any glitz or glamour here, it's a simple interface).

It gets the job done.

It's a different version from the one released in 99/2000. AvP Gold still has the same multiplayer support on Gamespy Arcade. However, getting that old version of the game working on new systems is a royal pain in the ♥♥♥.

The Steam version has something AvP never had, an ingame server browser.
