View Full Version : Will I get bored?

I'm slowly trucking away on the path to all lvl 6, and I'm just wondering (this is primarily for those who already have done this) if/when I do get all my perks to level 6, will the game lose its fun factor? I already got to level 6 SS, and I've recenly noticed that I barely play SS anymore.

share your experiences.

Eventually, of course.

Same thing could easily be said for any game.

Once there is nothing left to achieve and you've learned everything there is to know about the game, its just a matter or time.

Once the milk is sour you pour a new glass, which should normally be in the form of new DLC and new maps or added weapons/classes in the game.

Thats just how it is in the gaming market.

There are also plenty of user-made maps. You could also make your own! It really depends on you.

Theres always a challenge to be had tho, even after you get your perks all up. Like playing on a public server on the weekend with a bunch of lvl 1-3's on suicidal difficulty. You end up carrying a lot of the weight of the team and it can get pretty intense (have the responsibility of carrying your team to the next wave when almsot everyone else is dead w/ 200 zeds left to kill lol).

I've also been having some fun with mutators recently. Beating maps with the goredfast mutator is REALLY challenging. Me and my friend play goredfast on westlondon and other maps and play as berzerkers and just spend most of the match doing laps and decapping gorefasts as they run up to us. It's a very involved type of match, you look away and/or stop moving for a second and you're dead.

Also, Poundamoneum (s/p) with xboxs is great fun too, if you play on an open enough map.

The one downside to playin with these two mutator gameplay modes is ithat it will make a regular match seem much easier after you play that way for very long.

if you enjoy the core gameplay, then I don't think so. since there's just so many maps and mods out there, you can play a different one every day and still never get through them all. but if you're in a rush to reach max levels, and grind away at it more than you normally would, then you could burn yourself out on it and grow tired of the game much faster.

After reaching all 6's, I've come up with a few practices that have kept the game interesting. (Though I do play less now that I've maxed out.)

Help my friends level their perks.
Play lots of custom maps. (Customs are where it's at!)
Experiment with unique weapon combos.
Be a damn good medic. Assist lowbies.
Achievement farm.
Play lots of custom maps. (Candlesmoke, KF-Hell, etc)

If there were to be achievements for whitelisted maps and those that in due time become whitelisted, then KF would last a loooooooong time.

I only play maps with achievements.

Custom maps add so much content to the game, it's not even funny.

Why would you avoid playing them just because they don't dole-out an achievement? Did you stop playing WestLondon after you got that achievement for all difficulties?

I mean, there are some really excellent custom maps on the white list. And you can still gain xp!

I just don't understand.

You are only bored of SS because your other perks are under lv6, and playing SS doesn't level them.

I have no motivation to play a map with no achievement.

And i do play a map after i also get the achievement, because i am motivated to help others get the achievement.

I need an incentive to play and that is getting the achievement for me or for others.

Well that's basically my point; the mindset is "why play SS when I could be leveling something else"... What I'm wondering is, what will happen when I've got everything done? Do you guys think all of I sudden I'll break into this new world of playing however I want to play, or will I not want to play at all because I've been so used to having that "goal"?

Thanks for the responses guys!

Well once your done you could always go on servers with mutators on or 20+ people servers or even limit yourself and not buy certain weapons.

I have level 6 medic, ss, support and demo and I still play them but lately I've been playing commando. The whole stalker kill amount required to level this perk up put me off but now I find commando to be quite fun to play.

I have level 6 anything but firebug and I still find myself playing them fairly often. I personally adore Commando, but if the team needs something else for balance, I'll switch. Often I'll start as zerker if I'm gonna play medic, or start as demo for the free m79. I find it gives lots of flexibility to be able to buy weapons for cheap, then mix and match perks. Or help out new guys by giving them tier 3 weapons.

I have lvl 6 suppot and SS, along with lvl 5 med and commando. I don't care much for the Berzerker(unless i'm working on my med) or firebug(seems pointless and obnoxious)and i'm slowly working on my demo. Also i'm downloading over 250 new maps to try out o_O. My brother recently bought KF so i've been helping him out quite a bit! But the biggest thing for me is the fact that i can blow the sh*t out of everything i see and not get popped by the fuzz ;) but igree...there is what seems to be a constant flow of new content that it'll keep me occupied for a long while to come :)

You will get bored, i barely play KF anymore after reaching maxing all the perks i enjoyed.
Unless a new gamemod comes by i will be only playing KF agains when they release KF 2, wich i will sure buy.
Im also bored of Red Orchestra, but waiting for RO 2.

Eventualy you will get bored of every game that you own, but that does not mean the game sucks, i enjoyed KF a lot, before all those whitelist crap and even after, it was worth the buy, but you will get bored.

The game lost its fun factor before level 6, nah, just kidding.

According to steam, i have 155 hours on this game. Currently i can only play a game or two every month without dying of boredom. In comparison i have 1282 hours on tf2.

155 hours of entertainment was definantly worth 20$.

I am lvl 6 everything. I play KF sometiems with my friends, but not nearly as much as I used too. This is really because Tripwire stopped updating the game. When you launch Killing Floor next and go to join a game,at the top left corner look at the News segment.
It's last dated December 18th,2009. it even says Happy Holidays.
So I think the game will stay as fun as you want it to be. depends if you get bored on games easily. I don't,and have 75 games, with KF as one of my most played and remains to be,except the last few weeks where I have been far to into BC2. :)
Might want to add that i have put 450+ hours on it,and in my eyes KF is one of the best games of all time.

Hm...my friend had the same problem. with KF. After playing the game for about a month, he is starting to get a bit bored of the game. =)

I hate to finally admit it, but even I am not playing the game much anymore. I can only wonder what KF2 (assuming they're working on it) will look like on UT3.

Gears of War was on UT3 and that was one hell of a game, so I can only wonder how blasting specimens would work using a newer engine. Hm...

Try for achievements, friends, or custom maps to make it entertaining.

I wonder this myself sometimes, but that said I've only got Commando to level 6 and I play that ALL the time, and it's not boring to me .

If you ever find yourself getting bored, find a server you like that has new maps on or just play on a hard difficulty, it's never boring when you're surrounded!
