Half-Life 2 won't start

So I got a new PC recently, and I've been trying to start up HL2, but every time I does that, it comes to the Valve logo, and then to the loading screen. Then all of a sudden, it says "HL2 has stopped working", and closes down to desktop. Also, the screen is all stretched up when the game starts, might that have something to do with the problem? Here are my PC specs:

Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium
AMD Athlon II X4 2.8 Ghz CPU
Ati Radeon 7500 series (driver ver. 8.712.0.0) 1 GB Vram
2 GB RAM

Have anyone else had the same problem with similar specs? Is there a solution to this?

You might need to make a DEP exception (https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7169-TIAV-5361#dep).

As for video issues, other people than have better answers than I do. :)

Apparently, I just needed to set the launch options to "-console" and change the settings so that it matched my resolution to get the game working. It's still turning off because of the problem you have a fix for though, so thanks, +rep!
