I purchased Deus Ex and Invisble war recently, Deus Ex runs beautifully and can be launched from within steam, Invisble War refuses to run, launching it from steam causes windows to think about it for a moment, then do nothing, launching it as administrator from a shortcut keeps giving me the error "Failed to Find Steam." even after deleting and redownloading the game, about the only thing I haven't tried is trying to crack the game so it'll run without steam. anyone have any suggestions other than this?

Is there some sort of setting I could put in the lauch options that might help?

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

I unfortunately don't have a solution for your technical issues with the game, though I have problems (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1240152) running IW myself (in XP).

I believe legitimately purchasing the game and subsequently cracking it isn't (or shouldn't be) considered "pirating". The only problem is that it wouldn't run from within Steam which means it won't keep track of your playtime or allow you to use the in-game overlay.

Hopefully, Valve will confront the issue so you won't have to resort to cracking it. I say go for it, though. It's your prerogative. You bought the game and you deserve to play it.

You could try to launch Steam with a compatibility mode which will result in the games running in compatibility mode. Try the Windows XP 32 Bit compatibility mode.

I'm having the same problem. The only difference is just that mine actually runs the first time, go to the menu, adjust setting (cant run the game more than 1280x768 resolution FTL), and then when I started the game, it would just hang there and do nothing. If I stop every process (of the game), I go back to the desktop and for some reason 5 minutes later, it actually loaded the map. Very annoying. What the heck is going on...

You are not the only one with this problem and this is one of the reasons I do not buy up to date programs within Steam. Lucky for me though, I have Deus EX IW on CD and I am able to play it. I brought it because I thought Steam had tweaked it like GOG does with it's games. I installed the game and replaced the DX2.exe with the the one I installed off the CD. The game loaded up but when you go into the game to start playing it goes back to the desktop. I can play with the files between the two and get it to work but I figured it would be senseless being the CDs work and why should I attempt to fix what steam has put out. Sure I am out of $2.50 but that is only a drop in the bucket. Good luck to those that are trying to get this program to work. Dues EX the 1st game runs good(have the CDs for that game too).;)

Strange, works fine for me, and I'm also runnning Windows 7 Ultimate x64. The only two things I can think of that may be different, are that I disabled UAC on my system (automatically the first thing I do in Windows Vista and 7), and I used the instructions on widescreengamingforum.com to adjust my resolution and FOV to 1360x768 (my TV's native resolution) and re-encoded the Bink videos. Specs of my system are below, in case it helps you troubleshoot.

AMD Phenom II 955
8GB DDR2 800MHz
Ati Radeon 4870 (10.2 Catalyst drivers)
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 (Daniel_K modified drivers, intended for Vista but works in 7)

Also, I place all my games on a separate HDD (E:\Games\Steam\...), so it's not in the default location. That could affect it, possibly.

Invisible war? there's your first problem. :P

But no seriously, IW has NEVER cooperated with me, be it a pirated copy, a legitimate physical copy, or the steam version.

The most I ever managed was to get it running for what appeared to be just the first 20 minutes of the game, then it would always crash at a certain point.

The game is broken. If you REALLY want to play it you may be better off tracking down the Xbox version, but that port runs terribly.. though at least it runs.

IW runs fine on Windows 7, guys. And since my laptop is not made of magic, it can't be something unusual.

I must install DE:IW on Windows 7 64-bit from CD (didn't buy the Steam version) to see if it runs.
