i have completelly uninstalled steam from my computer, and re-installed both Garry's mod and half life 2-deathmatch

i am running VistaSP2;
graphics: Intel R express family chipset 4
Memory: 3gb RAM
Processor: 2.00gH dual core
over 100gb free space on hard drive

Before 2010 i was quite capable of running Gmod, and didn't run into any issues.

i tried adding -dxlevel 80;-dxlevel 81;-dxlevel80; and so on, but that hasnt changed my problem
garrys mod stops working after the blue loading bar finishes and the screen goes black. rather than it loading the main menu, it just stays black for hours until i hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and kill Hl2.exe via task manager.

any suggestions, no matter how theoretical or hypothetical are welcome.

as an additional note, hl2 deathmatch works perfectly fine, not a hitch whatsoever. its just Gmod that wont load the main menu
