Garbled text at the bottom of the screen

At the bottom of my Winterbottom screen, instead of the witty remarks, is a line of garbled text, a mixture of capital letters, small letters, and symbols. The rest of the game plays fine. Does anyone have a solution for the unreadable text?

OS: Windows 7, 4GB RAM.
