View Full Version : So.. what WAS the deal with that cat?

Alyx: "What cat?"

I'm not trolling here, I honestly want to know if there's any background info on this particular part of the story.

It's just one of those mysteries of the game. It's meant to be interpreted as you want it to be, although most people seem to think that it turned inside out, or something similar.

It's a pretty clear reference to The Fly's horrific inside-out critters during teleportation.

Um... spoiler if you haven't seen them lol.

Here's the wiki entry for cat (http://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/Cat#Cats). I never knew that was there before!

Cats are often "abused" and misunderstood...

He got turned inside out and Barney had to turn it inside in to see if it was still a cat... a future mod?

One I won't play...

(And I'll play pretty much any HL2 mod/map.)

Operation Barney!
coming soon...

Haha awesome! :D

Pretty sure the cat materialised inside out, as Zekiran pointed out.

Hopefully we'll meet the cat somewhere in ep3!
Would be the ultimate easteregg!

My theory is, It got sent back in time, to an alternate dimension and it some how managed to talk and adapt to its anatomy to be able to walk on it's hind legs and then another guy from our dimension lets say Gordon was then tele-ported to the same place as the cat and there on that dimension and planet that they both inhabited was known as.....

Planet of the cats.

Probably not but i have no idea how i made that up.....................

Let's also not forget Schrödinger's Cat (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schr%C3%B6dinger's_cat) if we really want to get into 'feline-fun'...

:wonders what a theoretical cat in a theoretical box in a theory of quantum mechanics has to do with teleportation: :p

It's all to do with 'quantum-string entanglement'...and I'm not talking about pulling on your knickers in an awkward way TOO-EARLY in the morning.;)

Which is how teleportation in our current understanding of physics would work? (Sorry, I can't read the whole thing at wikipedia. My brain is about fried already, so I'd last about 2 minutes.)

Okay, who's going to make a TV show for the Discovery or Science channel for me to watch so I can understand it for about 5 minutes? :D

it probably got ripped apart or something

Necro Posting a bit here, but he is correct.

In the original HL2 Storyline Barney did explain the cat situation exactly as was said above. "He had to turn it back out to make sure it was still a cat." When that was taken from the final they left the dialog about the cat as a bit of a reminder.
