DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!

It's a cheap knock off of IL-2!

They even deleted my yuplay account and forum access because i told people not to waste their money on it.

Eye candy is ok but it is nothing but an arcade game and has no mod support like IL-2. You cant take off. All Missions start in air.

Also, to get direct access to patches you have to pay a subscription fee. Otherwise you have to do it through torrent.

These people are as bad as the fakes who made operation flashpoint 2.

Turn it onto sim...

Go to options select start on ground

Steam gives you the latest patched version or you download the free version through the yu client for free, the html subscription is an optional service and is for other yu play games really not this..

Stop trolling, it has its faults I don't think anyones in denial about that and the devs need to get on the ball and deliver what they say before it dies but at the very least try to post with some actual facts instead of a pile of BS

Um.. dude

First off STEAM does NOT supply the latest patch. Yuplay REQUIRES a subscription for a DIRECT HTML LINK, to their server, for the patch. However, they do also supply a torrent link for free.

Also if you really think Sim mode and Realistic mode are anything but garbage than you don't play many flight sims. Yes its decent for a good 30 minutes. But no mod support, no take offs (Multi), arcade gameplay, and crappy flight mechanics makes this game garbage. Play 1946 and get back to me.

Sorry you're in denial of you crappy purchase.

Dude, you can take off / land in just about EVERY campaign mission, even in arcade mode. I played the game on "simulation" with trackir = very impressive.

Stop comparing the game to Il2 and enjoy it for what it is (or don't).

Yes the drm is silly / yuplay bit torrent update is pointless.

Actually, I have enjoyed this game much more than Dragon Rising.

You do know this was supposed to be the new IL2 as it was advertised. The series was just sold to a new publisher.

Stizzy.. can you at least troll with facts.. The steam version is fully patched..

If you dont like it and for some obscure reason find the need to compare it to IL2 (a game I play a lot more than this by the way) fine, but try to get some facts right.. So far all I see is trolling and misinformation

I don't think this was meant as a successor to IL-2 in any way. The confusion comes from the fact that this is a Xbox/PS3/Nintendo DS console port of a title called 'IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey'.

I think (i.e don't know for sure) the developers of this game licensed some flight model technology from IL-2 and/or got permission to use that name. On the PC port the name was changed to 'Wings of Prey' and seems to have wisely dropped the IL-2 bit (it's not really comparable at all).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wings_of_Prey

PS I too was disappointed with Op Flashpoint 2, as in it did seem to be a pretty but simplistic console port. ARMA 2 is worth checking out, i.e. sometimes you want a 3 course meal rather than a 'happy meal with toy' :-)

You do know this wasn't supposed to be the new IL2 and it was never advertised as such? As fearlessfrog explained, some confusion may have arose from the console version Birds of Prey.
The actual successor (now just talking about name to prevent more useless comparing) will be Storm of War, Oleg ♥♥♥♥♥♥' project, released by 1C, just like the original IL2.
EDIT: This forum is anti-IL2 or something, can't even mention Oleg's last name :P.

Yeah, it's a really odd one, but Oleg's surname is deemed as an offensive word by the forum software. I don't know why, I guess there must have been some real flame wars over time :-)

PS A little off topic, but SoW might actually come out this year (!), i.e. updates here:

and an interview here (with a Wings of Prey mention too):

:D

I have nothing particular against SoW, just don't like the release date info on any of it. Personally, I'd rather have a WIP with patches after, but I know there's a lot of guys out there who think differently, and I respect that.

What's up with M addox anyways... does it have something to do with ♥[/color]♥♥♥♥♥_(writer)"]George Ouzounian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/[color="#FF66FF) (and yes, that was googled)?
EDIT: Wow... it even censors the links?!

Ah, I think it was to do with that source code 'leak' of Half Life way back when, i.e. He Who Shall Not Be Named

http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1013072/half-life-hacker-holds-valve-to-ransom

i.e. poor old Oleg just has an unlucky last name then :)

As for SoW, I think (and honestly not trolling here) that I am ok with quality being variable at the beginning and waiting for patches but the key platform and sdk ability needs to be in-place from the get go.

The reason it seems SoW is taking so long is that they want to rebuild a platform that will last a long time (IL-2 graphics are circa 1999, which is actually testament to that engine considering the age). Mission builders, servers, and the ability to Mod has to be there in the beginning to stand a chance of growing a PC flight sim community.

As for Ubisoft/SoW DRM (!) then sadly you know I won't buy it if it's like Wings of Prey or even some of the daft stuff that Ubisoft are 'experimenting' with. I also doubt it'll be on Steam anytime soon (as an aside, my comments on Wings of Prey DRM should really be viewed as about the Steam version, i.e. it is as a title here that I think they could have done better).

Oleg M seems fairly sensible about the whole DRM story and 'addon planes as revenue' though, so there is some hope:

The thing is its (unfortunately) not Olegs decision. It will be made by the publishers and there is little anyone can really do about it.

Yep, possibly. He can influence the choice of publisher, and that publisher can look at comparative titles (i.e. this one) to see if restrictive DRM has had an impact on sales though?

There will be some DRM, of course, but how restrictive it is may still be up for grabs, i.e. continous connection, limited deactivations etc. EA is on a 'loosen it' vibe at the moment, while Ubisoft (likely SoW's disk publisher in NA) is going the other way. I don't know if the AC2, SH5 or Settlers7 DRM is impacting sales for sure, but I'd like to think it had some influence in the PC market, at least just for bad PR.

Well this kind of puts me off that we have to pay for the patches to the game, that isnt fair. I mean usually with games the bugs are fixed free its a shame they charge you for each patch and you cant just buy the latest you have to buy each one individually?

please read other posts besides the one made by the idiot troll who posted this thread to begin with
