Hello X3 Forum community,

A couple of hours ago, I bought X3 Gold Edition, after reading countless reviews, including IGN reviews, Gamepot Reviews and some amateur reviews.

All of them only pointed one bad thing about X3 games: Their difficulty.

I played it for arround 70 minutes - according to steam - when I realized I couldn't accomplish the first "mission" given. Traveling to "Red Light", then to the South West Base was, of course, an easy task, but then to find the enemies the message talked about?

I went to each station, satelite and followed most of the ships I encountered in the South West Base. Couldn't find a single ship to enter combat with.

I hate asking for help when it's no one's fault I'm having trouble, but no "walkthrough" seems to be helping me. Actually, I started 3 new games, just to ensure myself it wasn't some sort of bug.

Well, in the end, I spent all my money in...well I don't really know what...Cloth somenthing, because some NPC needed it, and would give me 4,900 CR for it. -Note that it was no good deal, since I start with 5,000 CR.
How would I get my money back?

Is there somenthing I'm missing?

In advance,
thank you.

Kind Regards,
-ColdSeer

Edit: I'm playing on normal mode, just to make sure everyone knows what I'm talking about.

i see you bought x3 gold .. that has R and TC .. witch are you playing.

..

from the missions you are talking about .. sounds like you are playing R .. TC the defaught controles are better.

( TC= R+ More ship/weapon/trade goods / better controls and diffrent starting point.)

game has a huge learning curve. keep with it .. game is AWSOME.

I bought TC the night before it went on sale for half price...go figure huh XD

But even so It was worth it. Im addcited. Ive only really played it today but I couldn't stop. I actually had to force myself to wait till tomorrow (thank god for Darkstar One for slowing introducing me to space sim style games)

Anyway, from what Ive read and done som far in the game youre best bet and the best advice I can give you is play TC then from there dont worry about missions to begin with. Read up on some guides on the official forums there are some really good total begginer ones. The from there just start making money and looking up anything you dont understand online.

In the space of a day I climbed up the near vertical learning curve. I mean Ive still got to grasp sending more ships on trade runs (when I buy some more anyway) and setting up stations and building an armybut over all the game is best played open ended like free mode on GTA. Go back and tackle side missions after building up funds and ships/upgrades and you'll have a much deeper well of knowledge for the game =]

Sorry you've had a bad experience ColdSeer. As to your problem specifically, its hard to tell if you keep running into the same bug, or if you haven't quite gotten used to the game yet. It really is a quite steep learning curve, regardless.

Its not entirely unlikely it wasn't a bug, as I've run into a few of those myself pretty early on. For example, in the first "tutorial" mission of X:TC, my flight instructor asked me to target and pick up a cargo container. Sadly, the cargo container spawned and appeared a very... VERY long ways away; WAAAY outside the normal sector space. If I wasn't already an X3:R veteran, there would have been absolutely no hope for me. Don't get me wrong though - I haven't really run into that many bugs in either game (not that they don't exist). Its just unfortunate that the only bug I ran into was so early on and during a tutorial.

All I can advise is... keep with it. The first few hours can be very frustrating, but once you get the hang of it, you really start to feel immersed in a MASSIVE universe.

The game is quite happy to give you any mission. Some you can complete, some you can't. Figuring out just what you can and can't do is part of the game.

To give specific help, though, we've really got to know which game you are playing. I'm not even sure what kind of mission you are talking about. Is this a 'scan for pirates' mission?

Thank you all for your replies!
Yes, the game is really great, and makes me wonder why it has such a low price.

Has it ever been by 40,50$?

I'm still unable to accomplish my very first mission, but I'm currently exploring and will worry more about following the plot later.

As Taineract said, I might just keep running into the same bug, or I might be too new to figure out what to do.

I didn't find the Gamma Squadron yet, by the way. The walkthroughs said I should've done so.

Once again, thank you all for the replies!

Oh before I forget: I'm the X3: The Reunion, just to follow a possible storyline.

No bug, you didn't find the ships you were meant to fly with and the mission script will not continue until you do. The plot line missions in reunion have fairly fragile scripting. Go to Home of Light, one south of Argon Prime where you start, and then fly east a bit, though they should be on your sector map as soon as you enter the sector.

@ Gurluas

Yes, the game IS absolutelly great!

@ Topic

Thank you all very much for your replies and explanations.
I have re-downloaded X3: Reunion.
Played for 3 minutes, and finally found the ships (Gamma Squadron). They were behind the first gate I am meant to go through.

Just as a note: I did check there before, which makes me thing some sort of file could be missing when I first downloaded? I'm not sure if that's possible.

But then, maybe it was just lack of attention of mine.

Once again, thanks for the great replies! The Steam Forums X3 community is surelly very kind!

Oh and PS: I'm currently stuck in the zone past "The Hole". I hate green nebulas! I can't see anything :D.
