hello!
i installed newest nvidia drivers on my pc, but now cs fps never goes higher than 60. before it was 100 all the time. havent changed any settings, v-sync is forced off. dunno what to do, i cant play cs anymore. i know there is something wrong with drivers, cos its working fine with older ones.

I'm getting the exact same issue here.

Last night Windows found an update for my graphics card (9800 GTX+), so I decided to install it.

Decided to play some CS the next day and noticed I was capping at 75 fps, so I thought the new drivers must have reset the v-sync setting. However, after investigating the issue I noticed that v-sync was not changed and was at forced off both globally and application specific.

Basically, something happened today/yesterday that's causing this issue. :(

Type into console fps_max and see what it says.

Do you have vertical sync enabled?

You most likely have vsync enabled.

I love how people just read the title and immediately think we haven't tried turning off v-sync.

Did you remove old drivers, before installing the new ones?

I'm not sure about Nvidia, but Ati's drivers sometimes love to mess up, if you dont remove the old drivers before installing new ones.

direktors, I'm still having the same issue, although I haven't tried going back to the old driver yet. For some reason, its as though v-sync is still on even though all the settings are forced to off.

The FPS drops and caps seem to have happened when nvidia released their newest driver and steam decided to update their UI.

I wish they would address the issue already, however with a game this old it'll probably be weeks unless the vast majority are suffering.

Hello.
Type the following into console

fps_max 101
cl_updaterate 101
cl_cmdrate 101
rate 25000

Check if you are using OpenGL and do not use the higest resolution if your graphic card cant handle. Try using 800x600.

Good Luck!

hmmmm vsync off in control panel im guessing and the correct settings in-game

ATi users still have an option in their control centre somewhere about applications and letting the application decide or turn off completely, even if you have it disabled through control panel.

ATi graphics card control centre btw<

good luck

if this has been mentioned before my bad but dont have alota time on my hands :P

Its not the fact that it should not be acting this way if all settings are set to the right configuration.

EDIT: Ok, I finally got around to messing with it. (internet was out for 3 days.) It ended up being nVidia's newest drivers. (197.45) So, my suggestion is to go back to the 196.21 drivers and it should clear it up.

@OP - You said that you tried going back to the older drivers to see if that was the issue but it didn't fix it. Have you tried making sure you are running the older driver? To verify this you can open up the NVIDIA control panel and in the left hand corner click System Information and it'll tell you what drivers you are currently using. If you've done everything and still can't get it working on the 196.21 drivers then I don't know what to tell you from that it worked for me.

Good luck man.
