If you want the full range of content once the next big update goes live, then yes, you do. I personally wouldn't sign up for it.

Not if you don't want to. The game has a sub model for some of the more end game stuff, but if you want a solid shooter with some RPG elements, then you need not pay a sub.

Subbing gets you AvA, more open zones (when they ship in 1.3), a higher crafting cap (subbers can craft epic upgrades. non subbers can craft uncommons, but can buy epics from the AH)

you dont NEED to sub, but you do get more content if you do. However they do still add content to the non sub portion of the game.
