View Full Version : Text vanished?

Suddenly I am having an odd problem, since the last update all the text in my game menus has vanished.
I mean, the buttons are still there and you can click them but you can't actually SEE them.
I've tried clearing blueprint cache, I've verified files (Two had to be downloaded but that did not fix the problem).
I haven't updated any drivers or anything since it last worked, the only change has been the railworks update.
Any ideas guys?

You may need to have a look here:
\railworks\data\textures\frontend and here:
\railworks\data\font
to see if you're alpha channels have got screwed up.

Ok, another strange occurrence; The text vanishing problem is on my desktop, on my Laptop now everything BUT the text is blurry, like all the 2d icons etc have been replaced with super low resolution versions of themselves.
Again, clearing cache and verifying files doesn't help.
I REALLY don't want to have to reinstall as I'm only on dialup and it would take many hours.
edit: even the two splash screens you see on startup are effected, they look really blocky and pixellated like everything else. Strange that both systems have had something go wrong with them at the same time, implies to me that it was the update.

I'm wondering if any of the graphics settings got borked with the update. This was the RW update and not the recent Steam update, right? And you have not changed any video drivers, or maybe had a Windows update that might have caused this? Sometimes Windows Update can mess up a driver update.

No driver or windows updates on either machine since the last time I played.
Here is a screenshot of the second splash screen. Note that the "Pixellated" effect is exactly the same no matter what resolution I run the game at or fullscreen.

Edit : Note that there is a little image compression artifacting in this picture (Thanks imageshack) but I'm sure you get the point.

My laptop DOES have an ATi graphics chipset actually and I followed the advice in the thread you showed me but it has made no difference unfortunately.
My laptop is running a HD 4530 mobility and my desktop a Nvidia GTS260.
Thankyou very much for the help so far, I appreciate it immensely even though my problems continue, it's the thought that counts!
EDIT: The problem is SOLVED, Thank you SO MUCH for the help, the thread you showed me wasn't my solution but DID point me in the right direction, for me it wasn't an Adaptive Anti Aliasing problem, it was my Mipmap level setting. Having changed that the issue on my laptop has been solved. Not a fix for my desktop but at least one of my systems is running A-OK again!
Please try default nvidia 3D settings + RW Test Display settings (Handshake nVidia-RW)
Use RW for AA settings
I'm also using the 197.45 drivers.

UPDATE!
Hooray, Railworks is working great again suddenly!
There was a tiny patch that downloaded itself (less than 3mb) and now all my text is back.
I'm relieved that I can finally use railworks again on my desktop.

Excellent! So it must have been something that the recent big update messed up for you (and reading through the various messages on some of the other train-simming forums, apparently many other people as well were having various problems), but now the patch you mentioned has resolved things for you at least.
Now, go drive some trains on my "King's Arm" route! ;)
Cheers!

Hello benco97 ;)
Just a simple question : at what level are you setting up the Mipmap ?
I'm interesting cause my graphic card is also an ATI ...
Overside I'm happy your issues are solved now ! ;)
Best regards
