Gmod multiplayer dying?

Topic pretty much says it all

Got the game on sale a while ago hoping for a multiplayer experience, steam says there was about 2,000 people playing..so I bought it...

but the server browser has at best maybe 200 people playing including spoofed server player numbers, all filters disabled ... even then the only servers with people on them 99% of the time are "Roleplaying" servers...

Am I missing a bunch of servers or do people just play single player and or "roleplay"?

I assume, that you have never heard about time-zones?

I've seen plenty of good build servers with 20 slots all filled; you're just on at the wrong times or not looking hard enough.
