View Full Version : ArmA: Combat Operations Install Problem - Retail

Hi there,

I know that this doesn't concern the ArmA version off of Steam, but I thought someone might know the problem I have here.

This first started where I got an addon that allowed for a different third person perspective. It bugged up my game, so I uninstalled the game, and deleted everything (save for my other addons that worked) that dealt with ArmA.

I then tried to reinstall, whereas about a 3/4 of the way through, I got the Blue Screen of Death. It said something about internal kernal page being bugged, I'm not sure what it said exactly.

I've tried various times, and this last time, it got to the point where the actual installation was almost complete, and it gave me the BSOD.

So I was curious if anyone might know what's up and how to fix it. Again, this is the retail version, not off of Steam.

Thanks!
Crus.

No sir, I just uninstalled and tried reinstalling, and during reinstall is when I get the blue screen. So there's no way to download a beta update or anything like that to apply to it, because the game isn't completely installed.

hmm , try revalidate the game cache but before that check your harddrive ...

maybe the problem (slim chance but still exist) is some hardware issue (HDD or RAM)

How exactly would I revalidate the game cache when it can't install off of the disc?

And I doubt it's my hdd or ram, because other games run fine, and also install fine on the hard drive I'm trying to install ArmA to.

Go to properties/tools for your hard drive, select to run scan disk, for now, do not select to check for bad sectors, only check the first box. Restart.

Second, run memtest86.

If you have a second media drive, try installing from it.

This will rule out plenty, and anytime you get a BSOD, these are the first step.

Dwarden is likely right.

Oh, be patient with memtest86, if you can, at least give it two hours.

Post or PM for more technical help, and step by step.

Please post your specs, or just a dxdiag.

A BSOD simply concerning one application makes no sense to me, it would really surprise me if it were the game itself.

For one, are you saying do an error check on the tools list? Secondly, what is memtest86? I have no clue what that is. Thirdly, I have a feeling it is the game, because literally everything runs fine except for that. I installed a different game and it was fine, I'm able to play cod5, which is installed to the harddrive I tried putting ArmA on.

Specs:
Win Xp Professional
256mb Geforce 7600
2 gigs RAM
2.4 GHz Pentium 4 singlecore

Overall, thanks for the help, I appreciate it. But on a sidenote, this wouldn't be happening because I have no sound function atm, could it? My headset broke, so I've been without a utility of sound for about a day, and today as well when I tried installing.

And I do have a second drive, but there's not enough room on it right now to download ( it's where all my steam files are.)

Thanks again.

Interesting turn out.

Tried the game again just for ♥♥♥♥s, and this time it downloaded successfully. Started it up, changed my settings, and quit, all without any error.

I really don't know what to make of this problem, but I wouldn't say that it resolved itself. Everytime I tried previously it got a little farther before it BSOD'd out, and I guess this time it went far enough.

Guess now I have to redownload all my addons yet again. =(

Thanks for all the support, and I suppose it wouldn't hurt to run a few checks anyways.

Sometimes before trying a re-install. Fully uninstalling the program and making sure all the folders/files the program made in the first place are gone. If you had mods or want to keep your user files or saved games, those can easily be copied/moved to another folder before uninstalling the game. Then reboot your machine before trying to re-install.
