View Full Version : Deathcams / dominations are okay. Just make them feel like CS:S...NOT TF2 OR MW2!

--------------
EDIT: Decided to rewrite the OP to be less whiny and more to the point.
--------------
Some of the changes I've observed from videos of the beta feel very unlike the game, and more like other games. I suggest that some changes be made:
- TF2 sounds be removed, including applause and that "whoosh" sound on deathcam. (I acknowledge that these may be just placeholders).
- The new HUD elements such as the scoreboard and the MVP / win panel feel very out of place. The style in CS:S has been transparent dark background with dimmed yellow text. The team-specific colours don't blend in well with the background. It feels a bit tacky.
I know people want the game to be more user friendly, etc, but I think that it could be done, just in a better way that it is currently being done now.

What's the difference, the video showed pretty much everything I needed to see. I don't need to play it to complain.

The old CS:S death cam has felt stale, uninteresting and half-assed since the first time I started up the game.
If you think minor changes to the UI and the way the game handles achievements and death cameras will affect how you actually play the game in any way whatsoever, CS 1.6 is always waiting.

This is what I dislike about forums, small suggestions that don't make a difference to some people, but do to others, are rejected.
I'm not going to go play CS 1.6. I like CS:S. I don't like the idea of having bits and pieces from other games forced into a game I like, with the developers clearly not putting much thought into preserving the look and feel of the original game.
CS:S isn't meant to feel fun and cheerful. It has a unique style. No-frills, just killing. I accept that people want stats, dominations, other TF2-esque things. I'm not going to argue about that. But at the very least, I want these things to be implemented in a way that FEELS LIKE THE GAME.
If a game feels like a different game, then, I, and I think you'll find many others, will find it hard to play. Which is why I'm here to suggest that a few "minor changes to the UI", as you put it, will do much to help me and many other people like me.

You're complaining about sound effects. Are you stupid?
seb26
05-11-2010, 09:07 PM
Exactly my point again. What the hell is wrong with people? I can't make a damn minor suggestion without people saying it isn't necessary or "get over it".
IT'S A TINY CHANGE THAT WILL LIKELY NOT AFFECT YOU.
Doesn't anyone care about how it feels to play a game anymore?
Having an applause sound play when you get an achievement isn't in the spirit of the game. I'm asking for it to be removed, or replaced. And I'm stupid for that. Whatever. I thought this forum was for suggestions and criticism? Apparently I'm wrong.

If I want a deathmatch server can I take off deathcam? Deathcam = stupid. This game looks stupid, regular CSS = best your just going to ♥♥♥♥ up css. Your only using orangebox because your coders are to stupid to fix exploits in current cs:s. And you will deny it because it's the truth. Way to ♥♥♥♥ up CSS. I quit if new beta becomes regular css.

Criticism and suggestions of the game, not of other players. Maybe you should actually contribute instead of insulting other people who are actually trying to be helpful.
Start by addressing the points in my post, instead of making stupid one liners.

Valve had TF2 sounds from the deathcam in DoD:S beta too, they find good sounds with feedback.

All you do is flip out and start yelling the moment someone voices a different opinion that yours. So I'll do the same :D .
Applause playing when you get an achievement AFFECTS NOTHING, if it bothers you that much, you can always replace it.
Half of the servers in CS:S have random sound plug-ins and aren't even running serious game modes, IE. Surf, Zombie Mod, Prop-Hunt, Deathmatch.

You're taking what I said out of context. An applaud sound effect has nothing to do with "a freaking halo them song playing at start up or something extremely gay like that".

1) Learn English.
2) Sound effects and achievements don't make this game TF2.

Day of Defeat: Source uses the same sound effects. I guess that makes It TF2.
Left 4 Dead 2 has modified CS:S and TF2 sounds in it, I guess that makes It Counter-Fortress: Source 2.
CS:S uses the same bullet_impact and physics prop sounds as Half Life 2, I guess that makes it Half Life 2.

No one until your post has actually presented any valid opposing points, hence my "flipping out".
I'm saying that the CS community is very reluctant to change and you'll find that even minor things can influence people's opinion of the beta as a whole.
How come all of the other sounds in the game fit? Radio voices saying "Counter-Terrorists Win", etc, it all fits together, regardless of how many server owners run these novelty sound plugins. Audience sounds doesn't fit, and I'm asking for it to be changed, yet I'm told to go back to 1.6, to change the sound myself, even though there are probably heaps of others like me.

Well done, because applause sounds are really the same as bullet impact sounds aren't they.
Doesn't anything strike you as wrong when you hear a giant applause in the middle of quiet or amongst grenades and AK47s? It doesn't make any sense. In TF2 it does, because the Announcer is watching you and from the booing and cheering when you win or lose it's assumed that there are "people watching you". In CS:S, it's different.
How hard is that to grasp?

Again, if you don't like the sounds you can always change them yourself. Valve isn't going to tailor make every single aspect of the game for you, there probably a large portion of the community that likes the sounds and an even larger that doesn't give a ♥♥♥♥.
This is a beta, for all we know these are just place holders, Valve might end up changing them or adding a silent mode.
And again, you can always change your sounds.

I agree that the clapping sound for an achievement doesn't fit the game at all. I am not sold on the death cam either.

I was replying to a totally different argument.
A single sound effect that has barely any correlation to actual gameplay isn't going to make a game into anything else than what it already is.

From watching a few videos on the beta, the new parts of the game make it feel like something OTHER THAN CS:S.
Dunno about that, but when I saw "cinematic deathcam" whilst I didn't expect George Lucas was going to make an appearance, I was expecting MW2-like deathcam footage showing "the last few seconds before you were killed from the perspective of the guy who killed you" sort of thing.
Where you could look and say "Well it's no wonder I get killed so quickly" or "Well, that's an aimbot" :)
Looking at some beta footage on youtube it seems more like the game zooms into a screenshot of whoever killed you?
If so, that's a pity and a little underwhelming (and I was looking forward to the deathcam I envisaged, when I read the press release and the various news stories, eventually being put in their other games too)
(I suspect a few that have written these new stories about the beta have misinterpreted the phrase too, as they have written from the perspective of MW2)
Oh well...

I agree with you, I also don't like how it freezes on your killer but you're left to hear only the sounds of the background. Sometimes its fun to see the surroundings as you die, especially if you are going to respawn again soon on some servers.

I completely agree. Having these sounds which are an official part of the game not fitting with the theme/universe of the game seems very odd.

Wrong, DoD:S had the same exact sounds and before the beta was even done they had updated it with sounds matching the game being played.

Since I never gave any absolutes, I am not wrong. It is a general thing. Since VALVe has done it in the past there is a better chance they will do it here but on a general level, if it is is in the beta it will most likely stay.

It's not like Valve just goes "Oh here's the beta, in two weeks this exact same thing will go live for everyone." Their betas are made for feedback and they'll change things based on feedback, but just whining isn't going to help.
