Hello, I downloaded what I thought at the times was a legitimate copy of Steam for Mac during the beta phase, and when I was told that was not OK I tried deleting it. I could not get rid of the whole program because I would get the message "ipcserver is in use". That was fine until now, when I try to replace the "bad" steam with the official steam because it won't overwrite the previous one... Help?

ipcserver runs as a user process, open activity monitor and you can check if its running and get is id and pid and can then stop it and then remove all the files. launchctl list in terminal will also show you running processes so you can stop it and do your cleanup. once stopped delete everything from the original package. Terminal probably the easiest way.
