Steam won't update

Every time I launch steam it tries to update, but it never downloads at all, always getting stuck at 0 of 33,354 KB

"Steam needs to be online to update. Please confirm your network connection and try again." is the error that I keep getting. Is there some way to manually update steam for mac that I could be trying? I'm thinking part of the problem might be that I'm trying to connect from school, though when i use steam on my windows partition at school I have no problems.

I believe I read that going to /[your user account]/Library/Application Support/Steam and deleting "AppUpdateStats.blob" and "ClientRegistry.blob" fixes this issue. I'm not 100% sure, but its worth a try.

I have no steam folder in application support. any ideas?

Are you sure you're looking in your user account's Library/Application Support, or the global Library/Application Support? It'll be in the former and not the latter.

Otherwise, re-download the dmg and reinstall.

Neither application support folder has a steam folder. I've re-downloaded the dmg multiple times, it's not working.

Sorry, I'm not really sure what else to suggest. Try contacting Steam support? They may to take a few hours to a few days to get back to you, but they're helpful and pleasant to deal with.

Alright I guess I will do that, if anyone finds a solution though please let me know.
