Hey co-gamers,
thought I'd share this since most of us are annoyed by the fact that Steam is kind of a bandwidth hog. I wrote a little rudimentary shell script who does the job.
You can find details here (http://web.me.com/sulfura/Sulfuras_Ranting/Blog/Entries/2010/5/14_Limit_Steam_bandwith_on_Mac_OS_X.html).
or
you do this:
1)Enter your terminal console. You can find it via spotlight, or you go to your applications folder -> utilities -> terminal.
2)Download this package (http://public.me.com/ix/sulfura/steam/steam_limit.zip?disposition=download+1273853611331 ) and extract the content to your home folder (or any folder if you know how to use the terminal)
3)In your terminal, type the following
“./limitSteam 150”
This limits Steam downloads to 150KB/s. You may specify any value you want. Please note that you have to execute this over terminal since Finder does not ask you for any parameters.
4)If you want to remove the restriction again, type the following into the terminal
“./set♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥”
or, you can click on the icon in Finder.
Feedback, thoughts and criticism are welcome!
