OK, I know I've mentioned this in a few other of my posts, but I wanted to see who else was interested and maybe get something "official" from Valve (hint hint ;)!)

Who here would like to see Mac editions of the Command & Conquer games available on Steam? I know for a fact that C&C3 as well as Red Alert 3 have native Mac versions already out there (My friend owns both for his iMac). I would like to be able to purchase these games for my Mac via Steam, because I really don't want to pay prices like these:

http://www.amazon.com/Command-Conquer-Red-Alert-3-Mac/dp/B001SH50VI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1273883796&sr=8-1

Steam already offers both for Windows, would it be difficult to grab the Mac versions as well? I really miss playing online in RA3 :3 I won't hold out for C&C4 because it looks like EA didn't have someone do a native Mac port this time around :( (Unless Valve can talk them in to it :P!)

Red Alert 3 doesn't have a native Mac version. It's a cider port. Emulated. Crappily. Very badly.

And so far there haven't been any cider ports on Steam, which is a good thing. I don't think they will allow cider ports

If you really want it you can get it from D2D for $30: http://www.direct2drive.com/8121/product/Buy-Command-and-Conquer:-Red-Alert-3-(Mac)-Download

But please don't support them. I made the mistake of buying my first and last cider port

Both of those games are cider ports if I remember right. Cider can sometimes work fine but usually its nowhere near the performance you should be getting.

Cider is just a commercial version of Wine, which is a compatibility layer (not a emulator), that just runs Windows files on your mac.

I hope that people stop using Cider and actually port their games over because Wine is not something that should be sold. It is good at what it does and works very well on certain games but it should not be sold as a product.

D: I did not know that, they ran perfectly fine on his iMac. That's depressing to hear. I don't think I'll be getting it for the Mac then :(

CIDER = Craptastic now and days.

Its what EVE Online works within for the Mac.

Need a TON of room to maneuver.

A lot of the trouble is the translation of winblows code tends to be a hang up.

So I gotta ask... are the games (such as portal) emulated or Native?
