I've never previously had a problem with Oblivion. Then, just yesterday, the game started freezing up. I would be able to play for three to five minutes, then I would lose control of the keyboard and mouse. The game doesn't literally freeze - all the characters on the screen keep moving, and the game keeps going, but I can't move the cursor and pressing keys doesn't do anything. I have to use Ctrl + Alt + Delete to exit. It acts as if I suddenly unplugged my keyboard and mouse. I also noticed that when I first start up the game, the main menu doesn't play music like it normally does. It makes sounds when I click buttons and the like, there's just no music. I thought that maybe the music files were corrupted, so I deleted the music mp3's from the Oblivion folder, and now the game works perfectly again. Were the music files corrupted, and if so, is there any way I can restore music to the game without creating the same problem again?

You got steam or retail?
Steam just verify the cache.
Retail re-install.

I bought it off Steam, so verifying the cache is the first thing I thought to do. I'm not sure if it even worked - it said "Verification complete" before I even saw a loading bar. The game still crashed after that.

Hmm not sure then if the files are missing the cache should have spotted that and re-downloaded them.

This Sound Mod replaces ALL the original music from Oblivion, to music from the Lord of the Rings movies 1, 2 and 3. The songs are longer than the originals, for more music time

It's the one I use anyway and it can be really atmospheric.
