Team Fortress 2 will be avaialbe on the store, yes, like all other Valve games that will be released. All Valve games will have Steamplay so you can probably buy the Team Fortress 2 PC disc and use its cd key on steam and have the mac version. You would need to download TF2 from steam though.

You could buy a retail version, register the key, and download the content, yes. I doubt the OS X content will be on the disks, though.

I actually just installed all the Source games from the disks I had from centuries past in Windows through bootcamp. When that was done, I just booted to OSX, went to my grabbed the .CFG files for Portal and threw them in the Mac Steam folder in Documents.

So instead of downloading 3GB, I only had to download 1Gb or so.

This is what I have, but that's probably not taking into account all the added class update content they've had in the past two years since the physical game disc was made, though.

Still, installing in advance from the actual disc is going to save a heck of a lot of time and bandwidth come the Wednesday release.

Yup, essentially when you buy a Steampowered game retail, you're just paying for the key. The disc becomes redundant, seeing as Steam allows you to download it again, and also updates it to the latest version.

Buy the game now. Get it for Mac when it comes out, no extra charge.

I wonder, actually, if they'll start shipping retail boxes of the Orange Box for Mac once all its games have been ported over. I'd love to see people's expressions when they walk into an Apple Store and see THAT sitting on the shelf. :D
