Fear 1 vs Fear 2

Im thinking of buying one of the games, can I have pro's and con's list from people who have played both of the games.

FEAR 1 is amazing.

FEAR 2 is far less superior. I will even say it sucks.

FEAR 1 is a classic PC game that meets or exceeds all your expections.

FEAR 2 is a console remake of FEAR 1.

FEAR 1 has atmosphere, amazing gameply, great graphics, the lean function, and the ability to save.

FEAR 2 has none of that.

In summation, don't waste your money on FEAR 2, but, good luck finding FEAR 1 in the store that's not over priced.

Those were the only parts that were semi scary... the spoiler one almost gave me a heart attack during the demo, but the rest of the game lacked the scariness...

It is a pretty good shooter. Its not really a good next game to the first FEAR though. I actually like the first FEAR's combat better though. The first FEAR had great atmosphere, fun weapons, nice gore (shotgun close range) and didnt feel like it was trying to copy every single other shooter on the face of the planet. FEAR2 on the other hand had little atmosphere and was not scary at all, to me at least. In the first one, I still jump at parts of it. FEAR2, I didnt jump at hardly anything even on my first playthrough.

Id recommend getting FEAR1. You can find it on amazon and places like that usually. Itd be nice if FEAR would come to steam.

If you can find FEAR 1, by all means get it. Then Extraction Point and to a lesser degree, Perseus Mandate. Both good expansion packs.

But, like Doggie and the others said, and I agree, FEAR 2 just did not measure up to the original. Still was a good shooter by all means, but, it was not up to the standards that FEAR 1 set.

FYI to the OP, I have seen a copy or two of the original FEAR and its Expansion packs at a used book store for 5-10 bucks. That is, of course, in my town, but I thought I would mention it in case you are near one one day. It might be worth stopping in and checking.

....but avoid those strange looking things on the other shelves. They are filled with pages and pages of words that you have to read. I find that irratating.

I totally agree; FEAR 2 sucks!!! So many "bugs" just like the several quick time event with ALMA, COLONEL VANEK AND KEEGAN. I lost so many hours just to get through those "fights". I almost crashed my mouse doing the "melee" thing...Those issues are so stupid and frustrating! it completely killed my passion that came from playing the first edition.

BTW: I sell my own first edition of FEAR with both expansion packs (PC/DVD): FEAR 1, EXTRACTION POINT & PERSEUS MANDATE. They all are in mint condition with their DVD cases. Bought them in october 2009 and played them only twice each. If anyone interested please contact me, we'll set it up.

If you compare FEAR 2 to FEAR 1 people will always say FEAR 2 is horrible...

Both games were good, but FEAR 1 is and always will be far more superior.

I hadn't realized the Steam version includes the expansions! I bought the original when it first came out, but never played the expansions. For this price, I couldn't pass it up.

I actually thought the FEAR1 expantions were decent too, heh.

i just lost the point of it really... after the expansions and fear 2 it just left me in the dust with the story on how it all ties together. especcially since we have 3 unnamed heroes with bullet time special power that was given strictly to only the first guy in fear 1 because of story, well hope fear 3 brings it all together again

When you read the details of FEAR, it states that the non-canon expansion packs are included :)

My retail version of FEAR, Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate without patches comes in at 14GB

This might change, the release of the expansions with the release hints at that. Furthermore, Day 1 did work on the expansions which is now doing FEAR 3. WB owns the rights to FEAR name and characters now.

Besides which, Monolith "canon" doesn't make much sense either as well as being filled with plot holes and contradictions.

I think it was stupid for Monolith to try to write off the expansions, as especially since EP was much better overall than even the original FEAR 1.

But now since Monolith is out of the picture and Day 1 and WB are in charge, perhaps they will account for the expansions in FEAR 3 story.

FEAR 2 isnt complete dookie, its just that it is so unbelievably disapointing especially for those of us who waited for 3 1/2 years for it and suffered through all the drama concerning the IP. FEAR is the superior game, but FEAR 2 is worth a go if you've finished the original.

i definitely agree with this assessment, but maybe try the FEAR 2 demo first to decide if it's worth your money (it probably isn't lol)
