I just bought killing floor and when I try to launch it, it freezes at the launch screen. I have a white macbook and I can't upgrade the OS passed 10.5.7. Anyone know why it just freezes?

Do you know what video card your macbook has?

I don't know how to check on my macbook, but I assume it's "NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM" I have a macbook 13" white

Does it ever quit off the launch screen?
Also please post this over at our mac support forums: http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/forumdisplay.php?f=94
Also attach or post the contents of your killingfloor.log file. It will be under Library-Application Support-KillingFloor-System

You can see what graphics card you have by going to the Apple Menu, clicking About This mac. Then click More Info. Choose Graphics/Displays. The bold line at the top there is your graphics card.

Yes. It goes to the launch screen, freezes, then quits eventually. It doesn't show KillingFloor under application support.

That's the problem. The more info is faded out, I can't click on it. Stupid school macbooks...

Is System Profiler in Applications/Utilities? If so, you can load it and it will show you the same information.

You're sure there is no Killing Floor folder in ~/Library/Application Support/ ?
"~" being your home directory (check Finder -> "Username" -> Library -> Application Support"
If it is indeed not there, then it shouldn't be a wonder why KF freezes at start, coz' it cannot create its config directory. Whatever the reason of that might be, then: no write permissions? School macbook You say, probably logged into a Guest account on Your macbook?

If he's on Leopard (10.5) then his laptop will have one of these cards:
GMA 950
Intel x3100
nvidia 9400M
He will not have the 320 since that is only supported on Snow leopard. According to Valve, you need 10.5.8 or 10.6.3 to run Steam properly. Could the fact that he doesn't meet this requirement somehow be cause Steam to not launch KF properly?
Also, if you are unable to upgrade your OS to 10.5.8, I'd suggest freshly reinstalling the OS (after backing up) and then upgrading. Your OS should be upgrading, something is wrong if it isn't.

I found a massive bug in Killing Floor. There's no crosshairs.

All correct. Also, he would not have the 320 because the Macbook (non-pro) with 320M literally just came out yesterday.
If More Info... is grayed out then it may be that the admin (the school?) has disabled access. That may mean OS updates require some express permission from those in charge.

Yes, I am using a school macbook. They can't be updated passed 5.7 for now. They will update them and hand them out next year with the latest OS. If the OS is the problem, then I guess I can't do anything about it :(.

Only the new MacBook whites have a 320M.
They updated this week, so if your MacBook is older than ~3 days you will have an older card.
Is it unibody?

Yeah, I know it's intended. I just don't like it. I understand that some people DO like it, but I'm not a fan.
I don't understand why there isn't an option to turn it on. If you don't like it, fine, don't use it. But not having an option to turn it on seems a little backwards to me. I know that probably make me a noob, or whatever the cool kids call people who just want to play for fun these days.
I'm not disappointed that I bought the game, but honestly, had I known that there was a strict no crosshairs policy in the game ahead of time, I probably wouldn't have.
Anyway, sorry for dragging this thread off topic.

Iron sights, use them. It's really not so bad, you eventually adjust and prefer it. KF wouldn't be so fun with crosshairs. Takes away from getting headshots (less skill involved).

I find it more fun without a crosshair. Forces you to try and aim more, where usually in a game with a crosshair you can shoot where you want to without having to do much.

I hated the lack of a crosshair at first, but now I like it, I like using the sight/scope :D. Shotguns and Double Magnums ftw though

Having cross-hairs makes hitting easier which would make it unfair for people having it off. The idea is to level the playing ground. Unlike a lot of games killingfloor doesn't have a cone of fire either (which is what makes hipshooting fun). So if you get good at hip shooting you're pretty much as accurate as when in ironsights.

Just center the fat one in the middle of your screen and jam your finger down on the mouse. wait a few seconds, then the fatty should be dead. Easy.

Yeah, and even though it is not the best shotgun, the hunting shotgun looks so damn good it is irresistible. Gets better every time I play it too, I am moving off the beginner servers now. :D
