Team Fortress Classic wont open

I have become a fan of the game and i have been playing it a few months. Now when I click on it, the screen goes black, then the regular steam page is back. The game never runs. I redownloaded it and it didnt help. What should I do?

Did you change Windows' Data Execution Prevention (DEP) settings?

I have no other ideas right now, sorry.

Im not sure what you mean by changing those settings (im not a PC gamer) is it something I need to do for some update or something? Because I definetly did not do that.

DEP needs to be set so that it isn't active for TFC. What I do is enable it for necessary/required Windows programs and services only.

No go. I couldnt find TFC or anything to do with Hl.exe in the options to turn off DEP.... So I am still at a loss.

Do other Half-Life based games work? Like Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Day of Defeat (not the Source versions).

Try this:
- Exit Steam
- Rename the "team fortress classic" folder (not "tfc") to whatever you want.
- Start Steam again, check if TFC is working.

The other Half-Life games dont work either.... Can you explain to me what this folder is? I have never found a TFC folder in the first place. How do I get to it?

If the other games don't work either, then renaming the folder won't help.
But for the record, the folder is located at
C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\<your Steam account name>\

Can you post a screenshot of your DEP settings or quote them?

HEY DUDE THANKS!! You telling me the location of the folder allowed me to put that in the DEP options where I found "Half-Life Launcher" which I enabled in DEP so now it works. Thanks so much for your help. Maybe we will see eachother in TFC sometime :)
