Firstly, i'd just like to say i play all my games on a laptop simply because i love the idea of going round a friends and bringing it with me so we can play our steam games together :D! Another thing, i don't want to upgrade or buy a new laptop before anyone recommends that i do. Finally i know there are sites that can check if you can run a game with just a click but i want to know how well the computer will deal with it when it comes to hordes of enemies (like in l4d).

So what im suggesting is that more popular games like COD need to have small segments that you can download and play, not as big as demos but just to see how well the game will run. Im hesitating on buying L4D2 because im not sure how my laptop will deal with it..

Thanks for reading, now open for comments :)

These small segments are called a demo and when they don't want to release a demo, they're unlikely to release a benchmark too. Anyway, that's what system requirements are good for.
A while ago, I proposed Valve to make a partnership with systemrequirementslab.com so you can check if your PC can run the game right from the store page.

Can You Run It. search on google. and remember - laptops are always slower than PCs with the same statistics

I would rather there just be a demo for all games. Its just like those "Segments" you're asking of, and you'll be able to tell how well your game can run it by playing it, as it should be no different from the full version.

Oh, that'd be cool, or have a built in diagnostics check to tell you, in a range, your computer's ability to handle a selected game.
Probonus if one were able to search the steam store for games based on your computer's performance for optimal gaming experience.

It would be nice to be able to search for games your computer will run :), no point fantasizing about a game you can't run

just to see how well the game will run

Yeh. Cyri just shows your computer and the minimum and recommended requirements. There are often more things eg. how long can I play this game till my battery goes down

Very good idea indeed, i havnt really agreed with some so pationatly in a while but you know as most compaines they just want the most markey they can and then anotehr company starts and another. If they just learnt to work together rather than against then this problem in specifict would dissapear and im pretty much sure pc as being complex as it is would be made easy as consoles :)
