I do love Steam as a platform for games and have been using it for over 5 years; but on occasions I really really despair at the price of games. Just went looking for Bioshock 2, (loved the original - played a bit of the second and it actually looks better than I was expecting), only to find it priced at a staggering 39.99!

So went off to an internet retailer, (mentioning no names) and have found it at 12.99. The difference is ridiculous - as I said I think Steam is great in general but not so great that I'm going to spend over 3x as much for the same game.

I'd like to wait for a weekend deal, (the recent one for Dirt 2 was brilliant) but even then I can only seeing it matching the general retail price at best. Is it just the UK that has this problem with pricing, or is it a general thing?

Please Valve - sort this out and try and be competitive. I'd even pay a pound or two over to have the convenience of having a game on Steam but this price difference is just not right.

It's expensive yes. And i'm glad i got it pre-order as it had a big discount at 26.99 plus came with Bioshock 1 for free.

This game and a few others like Mass Effect 2 and Modern Warfare 2 are the only few that are 39.99. If you look through the entire steam catalogue you'll see that this is not the norm, as most new games come in at 29.99 and below.

Edit - actually i just checked, and Mass Effect 2 is 29.99. Bioshock 2, Star Trek Online and Modern Warfare 2 are the most expensive single games on Steam in the UK at 39.99. Everything else is below.

I have a Steam copy from a 4 pack if you're interested
it will cost you around 25 pounds

Why would he buy it from u at 25 pounds after he told u he could get it for 12.99 pounds?

Simple - no disc required.

As I got BioShock 2 pre-ordered, I got the first one as well, therefore, I got two games for 29.99 or 14.985 each :)

Valve will keep the price at what they asked to. I think they should be more competitive. If you can get the game retail for less thatn 15, Steam should have it somewhere close, if not beating it

It seems the price in the UK is now 29.99 with the 25% deal at the moment. Although i don't know how long will last.
