Well F.E.A.R itself is V1.08, which supports my screen resolution (1440 x 900), but the expansions are the original releases and don't support the resolution at all.
The 2 expansions need a patch to fix this.

No chance in hell the expansions will ever get another patch. Just edit the config file. They engine supports widescreen.

so whats the highest resolution that the expansions go to my comp goes to 1280x800 but for most games I am now starting to play at 1280x720 so I can get better fps.

I did a bit more digging in the files and this is what I found:
Extraction point
C:/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/fear ultimate shooter edition/FEARXP
This is a program called ConfigXP. Opening it will allow you to set the resolution up to 1280 x 960 x 32
All the resolutions it supports are:

Perseus Mandate
C:/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/fear ultimate shooter edition/FEARXP2
This is a program called ConfigXP2. Opening it will allow you to set the resolution up to 1440 x 900 x 32
All the resolutions it supports are:

The Settings config file should be in something similar to
C:\Users\Public\Documents\Monolith Productions\FEARXP
so maybe:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\fear ultimate shooter edition/FEARXP
"ScreenWidth" "1440"
"ScreenHeight" "900"

Anybody run into a problem when you changed to a widescreen format, the monitor goes black? I can hear the game, but as soon as I backed out of the option page it blanked out and remains that way. Not even my monitor menu will appear. I modified the config file and it doesn't seem to matter. there was a message and the desktop being set to basic for some conflict - but I can't get the video to come back for anything. I've read other people playing on Win7 in widescreen, so I figure its something on my end, but can't figure out what.

sounds like maybe the refresh rate is set to beyond what your monitor can handle. Or a video driver stopped responding.

Thank you very much for your [lack] of input. All of your hard work is [un]gratefully appreciated.

Why in the world are you signing your name and adding in a PS? Are you writing a letter? Sending an email? I didn't quite know the vBulletin counted as such....

My Documents > Timegate Studios > FEARXP/2 > Settings.cfg
You can set your resolution in there.
Also the reason he signs his messages all the time is because it's a habit and it makes sure everyone knows who he actually is instead of the username he's posting from. He's answered that plenty of times before. Which you could of found out. By searching the forums. xD
