There are a lot of games on Steam for Mac that look intriguing and I'd like to try out, but I'm not going to. Why? I don't have any way to try them. Only two or three games have demos. It's a lot to ask that I buy yet another FPS or puzzle game sight-unseen.

For example, I had never heard of Killing Floor until just a few days ago, and the Metacritic reviews are mixed. I'd still like to try it out, but I can't. So my only options are to shell out $15 for a game I might not like or save my $15 for a more sure thing. So I'm not buying.

Several others actually do have demos (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1273112), but the demos aren't on Steam. That's just throwing away money.

So, TLDR version: Please make demos for your games — and if you have demos, let people know about them.

(I don't know how many developers actually read this forum, but I figured this was as good as place to post it as anywhere else.)

We dont' do demos. We do guest passes and free weekends. Several people are handing out their guest passes for KF, so try asking around for one.

Free weekends are an acceptable form of demo but I don't think telling users to beg for a guest pass is a good idea. Those requests will be tantamount to spam which is annoying for others and more importantly it accustoms people into accepting benefits/gifts from strangers (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=831297) which is generally not in their interests. Stone Man, that's no reason not to ask any of your friends who play Killing Floor directly though - assuming you have any that do.
