I just played EU3 Heir to The Throne for 2 weeks (after adapting from the last EU I played). Honestly, this game makes me crazy because every country change to be more aggressive and clever. Well its okay, I need more challenge. And I get a big surprise that Austria can take more than half France. What a big power! But Austria is so powerful in middle Europe, no doubt of it.

Now I'm playing with Sweden. Nothern Europe countries has tech, naval, land, etc far below countries in middle Europe. I change my religion to Protestant and no country wants to alliance with me. I am alone waiting to be attacked by such alliance power like Russia and Prussia. Well, I've already control Nothern Europe except Russia. Russia is too hard to taken down. And I later choose to control Bradenburg but something is makes me crazy.

Bradenburg can have more than 20000 cavalary, 20000 infantry and 6000 cannon and can hold with that number without minus in yearly income. How could it be?! I (Sweden) only can hold for 8000 cavalary, 25000 infantry, and 7000 cannon and it makes my yearly income become 0 or minus. Someone can answer me please? Give me some advice.

*I choose MILITARY DRILL, DIVINE SUPREMACY, BATTLEFIELD COMMISSIONS, ENGINEER CROOPS, MERCHANTS ADVENTURES
*Decentralization full
*Serfdom
*Quality
*Land army tendency (to Naval)
*No General but have 65% army tradition
*Treasury (half of the ledger)
*Land Tech, Naval Tech (25)
*All province (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Scotland) converted to Protestant

*BRADENBURG have Land and Naval Tech 30 and alliance with Livonion Order.

Please give me some advice..
*Why I only can have that little number of army? and greatly minus income. Manpower only 33000 max.
*Is it important to be Defender of Protestant Faith?
*Durability of this game? Never ended?

Northern Europe is full of crappy provinces. Your manpower and income will not be very high unless you expand into Germany.

Quality makes your troops fare a lot better but also means less manpower. You should be centralized instead of decentralized. You get a lot more income.

How far behind are you in tech?
And have you checked the ledger to see their inflation? If they mint a lot they will also be able to create more troops.

Being the defender of the protestant faith just gives you a Casus Belli if a nation declares war on another protestant nation. Although this might seem a good idea, all Catholic or Reformed nations are less likely to ally with you since you are a heretic. Unless I am a superpower I tend to just stick with the Catholic faith.

The durability? As in when the game ends? Depends which year you started the game. Without any modifications the game lasts from 1399 - 1821.

Yes..(I'm still playing with Sweden, Protestant, no alliance) Nothern Europe province is huge area but low income. So I decided to to expand my teritory to conquer Friesland, Holstein, Munster..and the cost is I have to battle Lithuania too but even Lithuania Land and naval tech is higher than me, but their army is so weak. The more I'm closing too middle Europe, the more I'm afraid. Because of what? Because Austria conquer middle Europe. Austria has conquer all core province of France except the colonization area.

My government tech is 26, thanks too province that I conquer from other countries because the former country has already built university. And its hard to form Scandinavian because Greenland and Islandia is controlled by Austria. The different between my land tech and Austria's Land Tech is so far. Austria's tech government is 6 point higher than me. Maybe I need to wait until 1780 or 1800 when our tech is the same.

My inflation? Hmm..I dont know exactly. But If I dont forget, its around 22.

Ow, I want to ask something. There is an event when Holstein suddenly annex to me. The event say that it is because of charm, influence, or something like that. What makes this event occur?

You should really keep inflation to a minimum. 22 I think is a bit high. You can change the maintenance of land troops and your naval units. When you're not at war, you should put the maintenance down to like 30 - 40 percent.

As for your Holstein-question, were you in a Personal Union with them? If you have more troops, higher prestige and more provinces that them, it is almost certain that a noble of yours will take power in the country.

Could you post a map of your Scandinavia-game? Sounds quite interesting :)

Actually I've never posted a picture myself, lol. I'll give it a shot with my current Spain game.

This should work. Just press F12 while ingame, and then go to imageshack.com, and upload it there.

Well, with the current size of your country you can't take down neither Austria nor Russia. I think you should try to attack some of those small states in northern Germany, or wait until Brandenburg gets into a big war.

I usually go as centralized as possible, full free trade, full free subjects and quality. I'm sure there's some uber-pro laughing at my advice, but it usually works for me :)
